Woman accidentally confesses crime

CALGARY -- It had all the makings of a perfect crime.

The culprits hid their valuables, from jewelry to electronics, smashed windows and even made faux bad-guy footprints before calling police.

Unfortunately, for those who hoped to foil authorities, Const. Charanjit Meharu was among those to arrive at the alleged break-and-enter scene.

When the purported victim, who was hysterical and saying she had lost everything and had a list of what was missing for cops, took a call from her father in Quebec telling him what happened in French, the carefully crafted ploy unraveled.

“She was telling him she and her boyfriend made up the story to make an insurance claim,” Meharu says.

“By the end, I had about 10 pages of notes and I said, ‘Merci beaucoup.’


“She didn’t expect a brown guy to speak French.”

Totally reminds of a story from one of the guys I used to work with. He and his gf went down to Mexico. They get to the market and start aruging about prices about something, these two Mexicans start making fun of them in Spanish about how they're going to rip them off, and she just unloads back at them in Spanish. He told me that was the day he saw two Mexicans shit themselves :rofl:

:rofl: gotta be careful with that shit these days. A few of my friends are fluent in Cantonese and one of them is fluent in Korean -- and they're all completely caucasian. Kevin Rudd (caucasian Australian PM) speaks fluent Mandarin, as does that Nigerian fellow (forget his name) who sings in Mandarin (youtube video was posted here a few years ago iirc).

I've been learning Farsi myself for the past year and I don't think I'll be mistaken as Persian anytime soon.

Only similar recent event with me was when one of my colleagues asked me "pourquoi" in French. Taking the House of Commons approach (answer a question in the language it was posed in) I responded with the reason why in French and only got a blank stare. I guess my colleague's French is not as good as mine :dunno: . Needless to say, they haven't said anything to me in French since...

My neighbor is a greasy porno loving russian dude and is fluent in like 7 languages including mandarin. Chinese are bad for this as well. Even if you are chinese and speak english they'll talk shit right at you thinking you don't understand.
