Beyond.ca Official Summer 2010 Cruise Through The Rockies!

When: August 15th 2010, Sunday
Time: Meet 10:00AM - - Depart 10:45AM
Meeting Location: Calaway Park Parking Lot
Destination: Green Ford, Highwood River Inn Campgroud
Total Distance: 308.6 kms from start to end in Calgary

This year will be a bit different and should make for a great day out!

We'll start at Calaway Park at 10:00 AM, talk, hang out, meet members for a bit (don't be shy!!) and leave promptly at 10:45AM. Please come prepared, do not call friends who are on time asking them to hold up the group, we won't wait lol. This is your two month warning to plan and take the day off :D Get gas, go the bathroom, and grab breakfast before arriving!

From there we will head west on the Trans Canada highway towards Canmore. It'll be the time to take some rolling pictures as this is the only time it'll be a two lane highway.

After passing Morley and Ozada we will take the off ramp to highway 40 southbound, Kananaskis Trail. From here we will take highway 40 south through the winding landscape down all the way to Green Ford Highwood River Inn Campground. This is a fairly large campground that can accomodate the group. There is a large hut that houses a stove for having a group BBQ along with several outdoor firepits and many picnic tables. Here we can have our late lunch BBQ potluck and mingle with all the members and take group pictures.

After the BBQ we can leave back on to highway 40 until we reach Longview. From there we take highway 22 north until we reach 22x that leads back into south Calgary.

This will be a much longer cruise then past years so be prepared :D

http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y169/straight6turbo/CruiseRoute.jpg

Total cruise time is estimated at 2 1/2 hours not including the BBQ, but I will also be running the route in the next couple weeks to verify length as well as scope out other campgrounds. I went to scope out the course last weekend but the highway was still closed past range road 53A so I wasn't able to check out all the sites. I'll post up info if the campsite changes after I've checked them all out.

I took some pictures of the suggested campground so we all know what to expect.

If you are staying for the BBQ please remember this is a potluck. Do not come expecting to eat without bringing something for the group. I'd suggest two items max per car. When you write your name down on the attendance list post which food item you will be bringing with you! We don't want 100 hot dogs and no buns or condiments lol. Suggested food items include but aren't limited to:

- Firewood and kindling (suggest 3 bundles)
- Hot dogs
- Hot dog buns
- Hamburgers
- Hamburger buns
- Condiments (Safeway sells Ket/Mus/Rel three packs)
- Chips and dip
- Veggies trays
- Salads (potatoe, macaroni etc)
- Meat Skewers
- Crackers and cheese trays
- Paper plates
- 2L of pops
- Dixie Cups
- Plastic cutlery
- Other awesome BBQ stuff lol

Please remember for the cruise, this is not a race, drive responsibily. Any members driving dangerously or causing havoc will be dealt with by the moderator team (hopefully one can come in here and back this appropriately). We want to keep this fun and enjoyable for everyone, we don't need someone ruining it for everyone.

Post in this thread if you intend to come along including your ride and food item. I will update this post with the list of members frequently.

Let's make this a great one!

Hey Gary! Ya bikes are ok, just make sure they know not to weave amoungst the cars. I know some drivers get really skittish if bikes start zooming around. But everyone's welcome!

Damn on the day of my cousins bday and few days before my huge ass exam, but hopefully I'll get all the studying done before that so count me in.

Are we needing any more Hamburger Buns, I'll bring a few packets of those. (If there's something else, you'd rather want me to bring I can do that too)

Will be driving a 350Z.

EDIT: I still wanna leave my name there cause I would really like to go. But just also want to mention that I do have 3 big exams (Public law, Criminal law and Remedies) between the Aug 16-20th. So hopefully I'll try and cover all that by the time of the cruise or even take a couple hours brake. But it'll all depend on how I feel at the time.

How about not. Judging by the attitude in your other posts, you are exactly the reason why everyone hates any truck or SUV with a lift and our wheeling areas are being shut down. How about you don't try and fuck everything up for the rest of us and stop making us all look like retarded hicks.

How big are the stoves? Are they 'army-sized' or just a little cooker?

OOPS. NVM. Picture's at the top page. I think I'll be okay if they're chambered. If it's one big BBQ with three doors, then we may have a problem.

Also, anyone bringing BBQ equipment (cleaners, tongs, etc.)?

inline6turbo
06-16-2010, 11:19 AM
I'm bringing all the equipment and tin foil for the top slate. And yes theyre all chambered :D

Coop3rr not sure what you mean about us lol. You're definitely welcome to come but same warning for the bike, drive responsibily and don't weave amoungst the cars. With a ton of cars we need to keep you safe!

I should have my Quadrajet rebuilt this weekend, so I'll be good to go.

I'll be bringing my Nova, and I'm thinking about 25lbs of slow cooked pulled beef, and buns to go with. If it turns out we're going to have hella people show, I might bang out a couple tupperware bins of Macaroni Salad as well, but the beef will take all weekend to make already, so we'll see.

SecondReversal
06-16-2010, 09:25 PM
Yeah, it's a pretty good meal. I'll probably not have enough to feed three hundred people, as the prep time for that kind of endeavor is ridiculous (Also, I don't feel like dropping $300 for food for you goofy kids =P), but with a full Round Roast there'll be enough for a taste at any rate. The Mac Salad's an easy fix as well.

Also, I'll bring a trunkload full of firewood for the grill, so no worries there.

CONS

I completely agree; driving in mountains for a few years, it will likely take 3.0-3.5 hours one-way likely with with a paced lead drivers capping lanes and preventing speeders (for safety reasons) An ahead vehicles slowing down the group. ie semi trailers etc.

Total of 6.0 hours driving round trip!! Better have those A/C and vehicle working properly. simply too long of a drive for me personally. Consider shortening the drive.

Are there any fuel stops? many sports cars fuel economy can last that long throughout the round trip?? I know my S2 does 400 to the tank. Some turbos can do 350km/tank. What if someones car breaks down?? tow?? Check the total driving distance..

What if there is not enough food for everyone to eat??

PROS

Cruise should be big, fun, paced & safe, organized by Beyonds most reputable organizer; Renee

Great Idea for BBQ, food eats etc., well-organized and well-planned. Selected the best time of the summer, time and day is the best of any cruise this year.

Could be one of the largest cruises this year. RCMP may be present to ensure things go smoothly

Long straight mountainous roads, little twisties reduces any chance of driving accidents etc.

Kanaskis is the perfect road choice to suit a mountain cruise, not a touge run.

Cruise attendance can easily approach 300 barrier...

I will update the initial post to clarify.

This crusie TOTAL LENGTH: 308.6 kms from Calaway park round trip back to Calgary.

Total drive time: ~approx 2 1/2 - 3 hours

6 hours?? Did you just randomly guess that number?

This cruise is 51kms longer in total then the Banff cruise from the last two years.

Google maps puts it at 3h45min. Anticipating a little speeding are we? :D

Google maps is never right on the trip timer..... it's 308km's so do the math. It will take 3 hours or so, maybe a little longer if there's lots of traffic.

Beyond did this cruise a couple summers ago with a lot of cars and it went perfectly fine.

300 people is pretty high estimate, that would mean 150-200 cars with an average of 2 people per car, don't think that'll happen since it's only Calgary cars. The June meet had over 100 cars because of people from RD and Edmonton.

Also, I'll bring a trunkload full of firewood for the grill, so no worries there.

Should I still bring firewood or just the meatz?
