CALGARY - It's an ambitious project that could be unique among North American cities and, when completed, will link parks and pathways around Calgary. By the end of this month, the non-profit Parks Foundation Calgary should have in hand its master plan outlining an 80-kilometre perimeter pathway system that will encircle this city.

I think this is a great idea, Imagine jumping on your bike from Tuscany and ride down to Fish Creek, maybe take a route through DT and Eau Clair, up the bow river pathway.

I also noticed the project will be managed by the non-profit Parks Foundation Calgary. This could be a good thing, as the project may actually be completed in our life time. I also hope the city can put together a plan/budget to develop dedicated bike lanes through out the DT core to encourage bike commuting.

Well the SW leg is held up because of the green space in between the city and the reserve so it would go quite smoothly.

You and Banned3X should get a TV show.

As for the OP,

This is an awesome idea! I personally wont be using it, but it is a cool idea!

Here's a couple pics

Most of the map

These were display boards at a recent open house I went to. The higher quality ones should be up on the City's website in a bit. I'll post them then. If I recall correctly red is supposed to be new while green is existing.

I think they said part between 17th Ave. SE and about Harvest Hills Blvd is funded and the rest is awaiting funding.

I've heard grumblings about building a pathway to/from Airdrie come up every now and then. Is that currently dead? Funny how we have one to Chestermere, but not Airdrie.

Lets hope, I work at the airport and it was a 40 minute ride into town and I loved it...after riding through cross iron mills parking lots and hoofing it across stoney with my bike on my shoulder I just gave up...

This is a great idea. Now the question - what finishes first, the ring road, or the perimeter greenway?
