using unlocked phone in the states

I'll be in NYC for a few weeks. I have an unlocked Telus-branded bb bold 9700 and am currently with Telus.

If I want to use my phone in the states with another carrier, I'd only have to swap in an activated sim card and all things will be good?

i have an unactivated new tmobile sim card. i plan to call tmobile a couple days before i depart to set up a new account with one of the no-contract-needed plan.

will there be any configuration changes that needs to be done to the phone after popping in the tmobile sim card when I arrive in NYC?

You won't have to do anything if you just want to use the phone to make calls. If you wanted to use data then you might have to change some of the settings.
