With APEGGA dues due at the end of the month, just wondering who pays your bills.
I have herd professors say that your employer should pay your dues, but the guys around the office seem to think that the dues are paid by the individual.

There's no real answer. You'll find it's a mix of situations.

My old company used to pay my dues but now I'm working for a firm that makes me pay for them. It's part of my contract that I'm a member. That said, if I want to take a seminar anywhere that is reasonable my company will pay for travel and expenses plus half of my hours to take the course or seminar. So its good and bad.

Have always had companies pay them for me including the ethics test and study materials.

If you look at the salary report it tells you what percentage of people reported that their dues are paid by their employer.

If you pay your own, remember that it's a deduction for income tax purposes.

I've had 2/2 companies pay my dues.

You could, but the CRA would deny it if they ever found out.

"Other" might be if a company pays for half your dues I suppose.

I think if you are like a month or so late, then you are okay. I've heard people not paying their fees for years, and APEGGA threatens to kick them out of the association.

And for the OP I'm 2/2 for paying my own fees.

The old engineering firm I worked at payed them conditionally based on seniority.

That was seven years ago though and I believe them pay them now.

Most companies worth working for will.

I'm happy that my employer pays for my dues now (Energy Infrastructure) . It was sweet, I deferred my dues (i wasn't working for most of last year) and got them paid for, and now July 2010 - July 2011 is getting paid for too.

My previous employer didn't pay for them (EPC).
