but bow is it done in priciple...special codes? or is theer some sort of combination lock inside :D nm, and when a phone i sunlocked what changes about thte phone like how is it able to accept fido and rogers SIM cars?> thanks

All phones have an unlock code, unfortunately you won't be able to do it. Either the provider has a lock code and will give it to you... maybe, depending on how long you have had your contract and if they are in the mood. Or you can find someone to do it for a fee, there's been tons of posts on here about guys can do that stuff. Search for it. There's different types of locked, network lock, and sim lock, basically if your phone is network unlocked you can buy any sim card and use it on any network supporting GSM.
