So just got back from the screening here. Pretty dam impressive, great fight scenes, the story was awesome but that was a given, and so much dry humor. It's amazing, totally worth the wait. I had to watch the other two last night just to remind me of all the side stories and characters. Also been playing the new PS2 LOR game, that game is ridiculous, so much senseless violence. Wonderful.

Only complaint was the ending, it felt like it was dragging on forever. Anyway, very oscar deserving!!

They played out sooooo many scenes for way too long. I was just wishing I had a fast forward button the whole movie. I wonder what they're gonna put in the extended version? Scenes of Frodo sleeping?

A movie that DRAGS on...boy, thats not typical of the predecessors

Sorry, great CGI, good story but some DAMN BORING PARTS that kills the mood. I doubt I'll go see the 3rd one, if I do, it wont be on my 14 bucks.

All i can say is im fuckin disappointed...

disappointed that i have nothin to look forward to next year. BRILLIANT film! i literally cried when it hit me... theres no more after this to look forward too. I cried in the battles, i felt like i wanted to grab a sword and start fighting. Only other movie to make me feel this way was the the two towers. Easily the most fantastic trilogy ever created... EVER.

However, if i was aragorn, i woulda made the pact with the undead army to help me win the battle and finish the war and i would release them. that way he coulda fought at mordor and stood a chance.

I got that SICK feeling in my stomach seeing the army of orcs surround the small group of warriors. Almost as if an endless army vs 500 or so people. made me feel SO sick lol.

Also one thing that has always erked me... if gandalf is this supposidly superior wizard... why the fuck doesnt he ever use his magic... all he did in this movie was make his staff a giant flashlight to ward off the nazgul! *shrugs*

but either way: fantastic...

I thought the movie was awesome. The scene when frodo woke up and in slow motion saw everybody and got all excited was really bad otherwise I thought it was great. The battles were amazing. They cut out a ton though. There was no mention of Saruman in the entire movie so that must be in the extended version. All the parts with frodo and sam up to when sam finds him in the orc tower(the spider, gollum etc) were all actually from the Two Towers book. But it made more sense climactically to have it in the last movie so they had to cut a lot of the 3rd book out of the movie for that stuff. Also if you like the comedy between Legolas and Gimli in the battles then definitely see the extended version of the Two Towers, there are some hilarious lines/scenes that got cut.

Saw it last night, AWESOME, simply AWESOME. If you're only a casual fan, I can see how you might think it dragged on, I'm no hardcore fan but I was still totally engrossed in it. The battle scene makes Helm's Deep look like a summer camp!

I'm a little glad that they did cut the fight scenes from when they got back to the Shire. In the book they got back and find the Shire has been run over by thugs. They then have to fight them all to get them out and restore the Shire to it original form.

I'm was a little surprised that they cut out a pretty major portion of when the King dies on the Battlefield they have a pretty big scene where they carry him back to the castle to give him a proper burial.

Cutting out Saruman was a little dissapointing. The scene where they run into him and Wormtongue on the road back to the Shire is pretty good.

Other than those changes the movie was awesome and I felt a fitting end to the trilogy. Rumour has it that they will go back and do the Hobbit in the near future. Smog would be very cool to see on fim.

I didn't think it was my thing either, took me a month to see the Fellowship after it came out. But man, I tell you, once I saw it I was hooked. I hadn't read the books or knew any of the background, but I got into it right away. You need to see them in sequential order, if you go see Return of the Kings now, you'll be WTF all movie!

Peter Jackson already stated that he will NOT be adapting "The Hobbit". And yes there is alot of overlapping of the two towers into return of the king, i suggest watching some of the interviews on the extended two towers version, itll explain it better than i can.

yea shelob's lair is at the end of the two towers book. he said he had to cut it cuz of time but added it at the beginning of the 3rd movie

The siege of Gondor and the Pelennor Field battle were INTENSE.

The undead green guys were portrayed kinda stupid, they were just zooming around like a bunch of hyperactive boogers.

My favourite 'powerful moment' in the movie is when Aragorn says to the Hobbits "You bow to no one" and he and everyone at Minas Tirith bows down before these 4 little men.

I liked it - and although he cut a crap load of stuff, he sort of had to - 3.5 hours is the absolute max. The DVD version will be over 5 hours long so you can watch it over 2 nights. :D I read he didn't film the scouring of the Shire, but I'm hoping it will show up on the DVD and surprise us all. :D

Yes, the ending was poorly edited - it should have stopped with the boat sailing into the sunset. I also thought Sam having the ring was rushed - much more to be done with Shagrat and company. The undead business was all wrong and pissed me off. In the book they are not as powerful and they don't actually show up during the main battle. I mean, if an army that moves that quick, and is that big, AND can't be hurt is on your side, how can you lose? All the fighting before they showed up is rendered meaningless. I mean Aragorn could have just shown up alone with his army and won the day with 0 losses. Too powerful.

He did improve on the whole romance with Arwen - in the books it is sort of thrown at you near the end. I thought I would hate it, but it was an improvement. And Elrond was good.

1 and 2 are buildups for 3. It will definately win the best-picture oscar.

And if you haven't read the books you should. (I read them every few years). But the Silmarillion sucks. Really.

And did someone mention the Hobbit movie?

(Right-click, save-as - do not link on other forums/sites as it will vanish).

ya the silmarillion was really hard to follow, too many names... it seemed too much like the bible.

edit: that hobbit preview is BS, looks WAY too amateur, lots of shots from lotr, other shots looked like they were taken from Dragonheart, or some made for tv thing...

:bullshit:

Heh - yah it's bs, was done about 6 months ago. The guy put his email on the last frame. Still, I thought it was well done.

It took me 3 tries to actually finish that hell book. And agreed - it's as dry as reading the bible for sure.

anyone know who that retarded looking orc thing was?!

The captain that was leading the fight? Dunno - some random orc commander - he wasn't in the books.

Fuk I can't wait for the Extended dvd with the 5 hours of movie goodness. Did anyone else think Minas Morgul (The city of the dead) was done just supremely? And Grond (the battering ram) - that was just too cool - far better than I imagined in the books.

The Grey Havens are an elf place across the sea where only elves are allowed to go. Once you go you can't come back, like heaven, blah blah. That's where Elrond was trying to send Arwen (ie, leave middle earth). Once an elf hears a sea gull, the sea calls to them like a drug - Legolas heard it when they were riding up the river and I think he crosses after Aragorn dies. Can't remember if he takes Gimli or not - I don't think so.

Frodo and Bilbo were ring bearers which scared/ruined them forever, so the elves allowed them to go. And after Rosie dies, Sam goes across as well (in the book he had the ring for longer, and he wore it). Gandalf isn't an elf but he isn't human either - he had the 3rd elf ring of power (you see it on his finger at the end).

Gandalf isn't really supposed to be a wizard.
He's not exactly human either; Tolkien once said in some interview that he had wished he used a more proper term for Gandalf than "wizard" - he compared Gandalf to more of an angel than a wizard.

Gandalf really doesn't do any spells at all if you watch the movies; no weird hocus pocus stuff like in Harry Potter; lots of poems and riddles more like it.

No, in the books his spells consist of lighting a fire in the snow pass, lighting the way in Moria and barring the door from the balrog (however briefly). That's about it - no lightning bolts, no meteor storms - that's D&D stuff.
