I have a 2000 civic.
Sometimes when i brake very softly @ low speeds I hear a slight high pitched sqeek. . . . .

Any suggestions what my next step would be to resolve this problem? I know it should be very minor . ..

A few good hard stops from about 100kph on a deserted road is good for cleaning glazed rotors. If its squeaking a bit, it could be a warped rotor or a caliper thats bound. I would take it to the dealer and get them to have a look at it.

Ummmm, maybe you need new pads if the noise is from the front. Could be your wear indicators or "squealers"

I've got a 2000 Civic with 40K and I haven't got any squeaks. Sounds like you need to do some cleaning or replacing. Are you hard on the brakes?? If so, pads need replacing.

Go and pay $6 on a can of brake clean and spray the shit outta them and see if that gets rid of all the shit in there.

Usually it is deposits that collect around your rotors. You can fix this by either filing away the deposits or having someone turn the rotors (around 6 bux each) and that will smooth them like new.

I told this one guy to spray his brakes with WD40 as a joke and he actually did. HEHE. OOPPPPS
