the "R" behind the 3.0 on my Subi Outback....

Not too sure what the 'R' in 3.0R stands for on my Subi.... does anyone know?

I'm thinkin' it means RAD! My car is so very effin' awesome! I love it! :love:

:facepalm: The R is the type of engine it has, most manufacturers use inline 4's, inline 6's and V6's. this indicates the pattern in which the pistons line up

Inline 4 - 4 cylinders all in a line
Inline 6 - 6 cyclinders all in a line
V6 - 6 cylinders, but 3 on the left side, 3 on the right, on angles so it looks like a V

Subaru is well known for their R engine. It's a wonky design but works well for them. There's two cylinders going straight up, 2 going from left to right, one curving down and to the right, and one at angle.

It stands for Rotary, they have a Horizontally Opposed Rotary engine in them, but unlike most Rotarys that have 4 pistons, this one has 5 pistons.

Rad is exactly correct. It means radiator. The other horizontally opposed Subarus are air cooled like the old VW's and Chevy Corvair.
