So I'm cracking open a family sized can of Chef Boyardee Beef Ravioli to feed a few drunk buddies (this is the main reason I keep em around) and I notice right on the can says 'NO PRESERVATIVES'. I've always been told to stay away from canned soups and foods because of all the preservatives and high sodium.

How does a can of meat stay good for years without preservatives and refridgeration?!

Coles note of canning: canning the meat is heated to kill off bacterial growth. Then vacum sealed so that it is in an environment where no other contaminants can develop.

Canning has been used for hundreds of years. Iirc

I ment more along the lines of why Chef B's foods so bad. Although from finding some nutritional information online having a gram of salt per serving can't be good for anyone.

That stuff has so much salt in it still though, I really wish the people who make preserved and processed foods would calm down with the salt shakers.

It does have a lot of sodium. I'm looking at the label of a regular-sized 425 g can and it states that 1/2 a can has 33% of your daily recommended sodium intake.
