Had a portrait session scheduled one evening (she is not a model at all), and a storm came rolling in. We finished before the rain but it made for some nice skies. It took a lot of lighting setup time to take advantage of it all though.

Entire shoot done with my beloved 40D, my favourite camera body! Especially for portraits.

1. She wanted a shot of her tattoo, so we did it indoors at my house.

She did well for not being a model! 4 & 6 are my favorites.

Yeah, she did pretty good. I mostly shoot non-models so making people look like models is part of my job. It takes a LOT of extra coaching on the posing to make it look good. She took the posing instruction quite well though. Some people are really difficult to pose.

Actually, it's a lens flare from one of my lights. I don't shoot with lens hoods which makes them more prone to flare. Some people hate them, some don't. I'm in the camp that likes lens flares as long as they're not obstructing the face. Personally, I think the flare looks kind neat... but to each their own! :)

I put 11 up just because I laughed at her expression. It was more of an outtake photo. Here's a different version of the pose:

It was in downtown Edmonton at the top of the City Centre parkade. Not in Calgary sorry.

I was wondering why I didn't recognize that building! Beautiful architecture, especialy with the sky as it was! There are a few nice buildings in downtown Calgary but a lot are quite blah. Cool shot.
