Yea, cars even sitting for a day or two get covered with sand there. I've always wondered how the paint holds up as you'd think it would be like driving through a sand blaster.

To their defense, a lot of those expats were used to train up locals and told to fuck off. It happens all over those high flying middle eastern countries.

My uncle is over there, says all cars have the paint blasted off the front ends because of the sand.

ALSO says you can pick these abandoned cars up at auction for a fraction of their true values. His buddy grabbed a 2007 ML350 for the equivalent of $10,000 CDN.

that f40 doesn't quite look right. what's with the offset on the front rims? and the headlights? i'm not willing to believe this photos are completely accurate in terms of the article..

F40 is clearly a fake. Either a replica or some sort of kit.

edit: Headlights, bumper, fenders all look terrible.

Haha, except that the locals in the UAE don't work. 80% of the population in Dubai is expatriate. Many western expats were used to train up Indians, Pakistanis and Filipinos though. If you were fired you'd still sell your property and car though, rather than abandoning it.

The bigger story is that a lot of expats made speculative investments on real estate and when the market crashed they were left with loads of debt. If you have debt in Dubai you're not allowed to leave the country and have to try to work it off (or go to jail) so many expats just fled the country, leaving their cars at the airport on the way out.

No - as far as I know, it would never pass the north american emissions spec.
