Looking for some advice on both units mentioned. I was thinking of going the V1 route but the Escort has gotten my attention.

Real firsthand experiences please.

I have the V1.

Crazy amazing long distance detection. I like how it detects which direction and how many bogeys. Only unit i've seen so far with that feature. Saved me a bunch of times already, I'd say really good for highway travel and long distances like Calgary to Vancouver for example. Works the best out in the open where there's no other x, k, ka signals.

Drawbacks?

Picks up every goddamn thing in the goddamn city, false alerts like there's no tomorrow, but at least it's working. City use, i'd say this thing is horrible. I've gone past a bunch of multi-nova's and it doesn't pick it up until i'm literally passing the effer's. I'm not sure if it's because the signal is pointing in the same direction i'm travelling, but my old Bel unit would pickup the old balls in the dodge minivan like super far away. Also gm's with red tail lights right in front of me....for some odd reason will trigger a laser alert. It's also in the manual that it'll do that.

I've played with the Escort 85/9500, and i can say my next unit will be one of those.

Also the V1 is mofugger ugly.

Thanks for the response.

Taking it one further, is the Escort 9500I (or 9500IX) worth the extra money over the 8500 X50?

it is. the gps location feature and lockout of false signals along your commonly driven routes is sweet. makes you all the more sensitive to real threats.

or you could just get both if you're a baller with too much money. get the hidden v1 for the highway and get the escort for in the city

You do know these are 110% useless against Lidar, which in the city is by far the most popular means of speed enforcement?

A radar detector was not one of my smarter purchases back in the day. Slightly more useful on the highways but every single highway speed trap I've ever seen has still been lidar.

Some of the other highways in Canada might be different but IMO it's a huge waste of money unless you know you're driving through areas regularly that still use conventional radar.

As for photo radar, IMO you deserve the ticket if you speed past a domestic-made van parked on the side of the road haha.

I have a 8500 it's basically useless now-a-days, I think it has saved me maybe once in the last 2 years, but I guess that almost makes it worth it.

If you're going to invest in a detector you might as well get a laser jammer as well so you actaully have some protection.

WOW

I have the 8500 x50 and it saves me all the time. I also have a jammer and a V1 but i always go back to my 8500.

Escort says the 8500 and 9500ix is the same model as far as how touchy it is but thats not the case. I have the 9500 ix in the truck and its now sitting in the bottom of but middle console. The 8500 is way better.
