Got the car in shambles, including all 4 sleeves cracked...I didn't want to be responsible for destroying the new motor so I left it @ RCTS.

I contacted Doug McMillan from Hondata and was pointed in the direction of Laskey Racing…..and that’s where it all started.

Yea, Ive been dealing with Mike...

The manifold also had birdshit welds on it...it obviously cracked
a while back
I did a crappy clean up job but trying to grind out all the garbage welds
took just over 2 hours and I was getting pissed off...

Realistically I think I'll only get around 400 on this turbo...Laskey Racing uses the same block in their 9sec CRX so I just need a bigger turbo.

Thanks, mmm stock B20 sleeves are notorious for cracking...they tend to not like high revs and boost :(

How bout taking some money your spending on go fast mods, and put some of that money in fixing those disgusting quarter panels?

Update!

Original plan was to have it tuned this past Monday, but that was quickly shut down by IAB related issues. It still made 240whp on low cam right before the switch over. Soooo Ive decided to go a different route, and yes I know there are MANY different options and guys making 700+ on the S300. We've decided to make an HKS V-Pro work in my chassis using an OBD1 Harness! Its the ONLY Honda in Calgary if not Alberta running a V-Pro and the only Benson sleeved B20 afaik.

Ymerej472008

Another update....

Got the VPro in and running last night, it fixed the power dip in the low cam (which is IAB related)! The only thing left to do is hardwire the VPro in and the VTEC into the VPro, it made 287whp//256wtq on low cam with 10:1 AFR, 8psi, with barely any spark and a 6000rpm rev limit. There was no actual serious attempts to dyno it as its still not fully completed, it was a test mule until today.

this car is going to be absolutely nutty. I can't believe it put down 290 in low cam

Is the boost still spiking? It will jam hard if it actually stays at what it hits.

Nope! Boost stays at 8psi all the way across, its almost like somebody drew a line thru with a straight edge.
Id say they built more of a base map than actually tuned it, like I said it was just to see how the V-Pro would behave in my car.

Numbers might be different on a mustang compared to our dyno dynamics. Boost is falling at the top end too, so he needs a bigger, properly spec'd turbo.

Jeremy thinks is faster than when he first bought it. car just rips, spins through 3rd, and it barely hooks in 4th.

Bigger!!? It's got nothing till 6000.

Mustang reads same as Dynodynamics.

If that's the same turbo as back in the day, the tune needs work. Here's the 14psi run from back then, a hair under 400whp. Your tq curve is dropping pretty hard.

http://www.virgeweb.com/rage2/legendboy/legendboy4.jpg

That car raped my AMG like it was standing still after tuning, hence, legendboy's title haha.

Yea, it's spooling a full 1000rpm later. That's gotta be a bigger turbo (doubt cams affect spoolup THAT much), and if so, there's no way TQ falls off that hard. Our TQ curve on the original tune was a flat as Gwen Stefani's chest all the way to redline lol.

-The late spool I know has to do with the fact it still has one exh. manifold stud snapped inside the head. (Outer stud also, which is worse.)

-This manifold has alot of restrictions and crazy bends.

Its more than a handful to drive @ 373whp and there is still a HUGE list of things that are getting attention over winter.

JZS_147
10-05-2012, 08:11 PM
the car is definitely not ideal. And there has been a lot of changes since the previous setup...It's not holding boost properly as we climb the powerband.

the tune doesn't need work lol, i've milked almost every HP out of it the way it sits. what are you going to do, wave a magic wand and have it make more power when timing is already optimized? :dunno:
