My dad's 07 2500 has a weird vibration between 70 and 100ish km/h. We came to the conclusion that it has to be from the back wheels since the steering wheel does not vibrate at all.

He took it to a canadian tire to get the wheels balanced and they told him that the vibration comes from the tires and they quoted him 1100ish to replace all 4.

The tires have about 70-80% thread left so it would be a waste to change them all.

Any ideas on what to do?

If the tires really need replacing, where could he get a good deal??

Im not sure the tire sizes but they're on stock rims.

Have you checked the u-joints in the driveshaft? Very common. Tires can also be an issue, what brand is he running right now?

Lol, I would get a 2nd opinion on the balance. #2 picture shows an amateur balanceur. There is only supposed to be 1 wheel weight used on the outer and inner side of the rim. Picture numero 2 shows two wheels weights attached and shows that the tire technician does not know to decrease the weight of the large weight therefore offsetting it with a weight on the opposite side of the rim.

Truck tires are much harder to balance due to their large size and mass. Take it to a reputable shop, not crappy tire.

If walmart tried balancing them, and charged him, take it back and tel them they are retarded. as stated before, chasing weights will never result in a properly balanced tire. PM if you dad lives in Edmonton, or is coming through here anytime soon, and I'll balance them PROPERLY for free.

While at Canadian tire he got told that the problem is not the balaning but the tires need replacing. So he just payed 20$ for the fact that they looked at it. My mother will be taking it to urbanx today and I'll post how that went.

Thanks for the offer EvolutionI but we're in Calgary.
Thanks to all for their input.

update: Truck was at urbanX, they did an alignment (proper) and also confirmed that the tires are still ok for another 6-7 months so canadian tire folks didn't know what they were talking about.

vibration gone

++++ service and very pleasant experience...
will go again for sure.

Thanks again beyond and thanks urbanX.
