So who on beyond is into thumb pushing?

I am big into dirtbiking, but just picked up a used foreman 450. The gf's family is big into quadding, and I'm sick of riding on there mud boggin trips in muskeg and shit like that haha. And you can never have to many toys.

I think the only thing im going to do at this point is throw some big meats on it.

What are you guys running? Where do you go? Etc

To give me ideas for awesome things to do on a kawd, i just ordered this dvd for inspiration. Looks like some of its shot in alberta according to the back.

Quads are the scourge of the back country although they are pretty entertaining to ride you only see them tearing up mud holes 90% of the time which gives all the low impact people a bad rap.

Some good places that I've found is Just outside of Drumheller. Just as you are going down the hills into the town you can turn off to the right. Its all actually owned privately from an avid dirt biker who lives in Vancouver, Which is nice being that there isn't any possibility of cop trouble unlike Mclean and such. Keep in mind this is only for Dirt bikes and Quads as the trails out here are way to tight for trucks.

If your looking for something a little farther, Check out Elkford, BC theres some really sick trails down in there.

I just got my old suzuki quadsport going, lookin forward to going out. A couple years ago I had a Polaris Sportsman 500 and we used to go far and wide. Theres thousands of places to ride quads around. We'd camp and ride for a week, a different direction everyday.

But expect to take alot of flak. 4wheelers and quad guys (and bike guys too) have been goin at it for years as to who's the worst to the enviornment, blah blah blah. Its not the machine, is the guy riding it.

Polaris Sportsman 500 HO. Got it back in May. Love it.

http://www.motorstown.com/images/polaris-sportsman-500-ho-touring-01.jpg

We ride mostly off the Forestry Trunk road, 100's of km's of back country trails there. We usually go to Indian Graves or Dutch Creek. McLean creek is also good.

Good looking quad man.

Since the start of this thread I upgraded to a 05 Foreman 500.

Loving it.

here's mine, 2012 Can-am Outlander 1000. We ride pretty much every weekend and do quite a few camping/quadding trips too... I guess we're obsessed.

I did a lot of research before buying my Polaris Sportsman. Here's what I learned.

- 500cc is the minimum I go for an adult guy. That's what I have and have enough power to do whatever I want, and as fast as I'd like (on a quad). More power than that is a "nice-to-have". I plan on upgrading to a bigger engine after a couple seasons on this one learning the physics of a quad.

- Stay away from the lesser known chinese brands.

- Any of the main, well known brands quads, are decent purchases (i.e. Polaris, Suzuki, Yamaha, Honda, Can-Am...etc). What I like about the Polaris is that the Sportsman has been around for a long time, so most of the bugs are fixed; and the suspension and ride quality was noticably better than others...unless you're spending a lot more money.

- Know what type of riding you're going to do. I love the backcountry, and so, bought a burly 4x4. The racing quads are a ton of fun, but the 2x4 limits what they can ride, and shortens their season. They're starting to make sporty 4x4 quads like the Polaris Scrambler, and the _________ Renegade. They're nice, but they have racing sty;e plastic which will not protect you from the mud and water that you don't have to avoid while quadding.

Happy hunting!

...heading out to MacLean Creek this afternoon.

I think it would depend on what type of riding your looking into?

Everyone I know runs Honda Foremans. Never any problems what so ever other then general maintence.

Have owned a few and never had any problems.

But if you want some big power and flash, i would have to say a can am is up your alley.

Only compalint I have heard, is that a few guys wish they had gone with the 650. Other then that, solid machine for sure.

Box is done. Pounds pretty good. Ended up going with a better amp then above, so reconfigured it a little bit. Cant wait to test it out on sat at Mclean.

Check the frame where the front A-arms attach. The frames aren't very strong and might bend if it's been crashed into something. If the frame is going to bend, it'll do it at the A-arms. Other than that, just the usual stuff you'd check on any quad.

500s are easy to make into 650s, or 800s, without too much work. If you were planning on a big bore kit anyway, a 500 would be the best way to go because you'd have to replace all the stuff on an 800 the same as you would on a 500.

I'm thinking of getting this 450 wolverine. Need some people to ride with though . All my buddies ride bikes and I'm trying to convince them to get a quad as well.

After putting over 9000km on Dirtbikes this summer looking to change it up a bit haha

Dirtbike/quading is my favorite hobby
There's a few places you can no longer do on a quad but CAN on a bike(after the flood).

If you wanna check out the falls there's an alternative route. Watch out for the water holes now . One that used to be a foot deep is now up to the fenders on my gade and a guy drown his bike in there after me
