Does anyone know where I can order a retractable screen door?.. I went to home depot and rona and some other places but they are all charging 350+ which includes installation but i'm looking to just buy it and install it myself.
I went to a couple places online that sell them but all the good deals ship only to the US... So anyone on here know where i can get one?

TIA!

DIY

Take an old school blind (remember the big white vinyl ones?) remove the vinyl, go to home depot - pick up a bunch of screen... Cut to size, staple in place on the blind tube (like the original). While you're at home depot, swing by the tile aisle - they have this nice aluminum ?edging? that makes for a great track - then swing by the hardware and grab a piece of flat aluminum bar that fits in said track. Get your wife to sew loop in bottom of screen for bar.

Just a thought :)

You can get them at Totem. They carry Seiki and Phantom.

Try a different Rona or HD. The storm door I put in on the weekend 'couldn't be purchased without install' according to Rona crowfoot. I bought it from the signal hill one no questions asked.

Just call and get a part number then call another store and buy it with the part #.

I got the screen frame and screen, cut it to size and put it together myself for like 80$. Secured it with white industrial velcro and it swings open and works GREAT!

I think OP is probably talking about something like this. There's a company that advertises at Costco but I think they charge like $320 or $350 which includes install. The DIY below doesn't seem too difficult to save half the price.

I'm thinking about getting one so if OP is interested, send me a PM and maybe we can save on shipping.

This is an accident waiting to happen. - Someone is going to walk right through that one day :)

I just installed a new door in the kitchen and will be putting in a storm door. A screen door seems too flimsy to me.

Check out the storm doors that have a retractable scree. That way the screen stays clean while you're not using it, and you dont have to look at it in the winter.

They have them at home depot (in bc mind you) for 289+HST

Seems like the cheapest option. I can't find a lot of info about them though...

Also Totem has one called "Vista" and "Vista Plus" at about the same price point.

now im interested in one of these, my townhouse is just too damned steamy some days, this would vastly improve airflow if i did it for the front and back doors

I installed one of these on my house a few weeks ago. I bought the package from Home Depot, I believe I bought the Seiki Vista Plus.

I'd never installed one before, so I took my time and got it done right. Took me about 3 hours. I had to recut several times (luckily I'm always paranoid about cutting too short and always err on the long side).

It works great and is so nice to have. It's nice to have the breeze blowing through anytime of the day. I would highly advise making sure you have the suggested tools noted in the instructions. Get a good hacksaw for sure.

Good Luck. Let me know if anyone has any questions.

Phantom Screens is doing a roadshow of their DIY Sureview and Viewpoint kits at Costco.

They'll be at Beacon Hill July 28 to Aug 3

These kits are made by Seiki, so I'm not sure if they'll be any different from the Vista Plus series, but it might be worth checking out.
