First off, I know shipping has been covered extensively in threads but I've already done a search and couldn't find my answer which is why I'm posting. Anyway I found a B18C5 for sale here http://www.automotivehelper.com/topic150783.htm, and my buddy is interested in getting it. It costs $3700usd. Questions:

1.) Is this a good deal?
2.) What kind of customs/broker/duties can I expect bringing it across the border?

Fixed the link.

The guy told me he'd cover all shipping expenses but I wanted to know just for future reference. I called Canada Customs and UPS, and here's the break down:

Government takes: 7% GST, 6% Duties (engine made in Japan).
UPS takes $60.40 for entry prep fees, 2.5% of government customs charges.

Surprisingly that's all. So the engine would cost less than $5000 shipped. Seems like an OK deal to me...

You can probably get it locally for cheaper than $3700usd. Several of our sponsors sell this motor/tranny combo.

Going price in the states is usually around $4600 usd without shipping.

Then you're not looking carefully. I'll post some links once we officially sign on a new sponsor, they sell everything for $4000usd list but you can probably ask for a better deal by telling 'em you're from beyond.

Rage2, that's a good idea. I'll try some of the sponsors and see what they can do. There's never a guarantee that doing a transaction with some complete stranger 3000 miles away will happen without any complications.

You can a complete C5 swap for under $5000 CDN easy if you know where to look. Local, of course.

The one as per the link is a USDM one from year 2000.

It says in the tile JDM b18c5, its actually a JDM b18c.

I would buy it from a retailer because of the warranties they offer.
