Hi guys,

I am thinking to purchase a used X5 or a Cayenne for my wife this coming up winter, and I don't know about the services. How expensive if i do need to bring the car back to dealership for services? Can you guys let me know roughly how much for an Oil change or the schedule Maintenance?

My STi doesn't cost that much for maintenance.

Thanks for your input

I think both the Porsche and the BMW would be above average maintenance costs.

Why dont you get a stylish yet affordable 2005 Nissan Murano with warranty?

I have one for sale.........

Depending on the year of the X5 complimentary maintenance could still be included.

we have a cayenne and a x5.
our cayenne has had more problems, BUT they are both expensive to repair

why would you bring it to a dealer to be serviced?
are you buying new?
if you are buying used, there is no reason to take it to a dealership

Why used and why limited to those 2 options?

If you are buying or leasing, there are other considerations greater than maintenance costs. Things like depreciation, insurance, fuel, etc.

This gives you some idea, USA based prices, Montana zip code:
http://www.edmunds.com/maintenance/select.html?zip=59601

I have some unknown costly repairs coming up in the next year or so, good to now know.

Using the link below, I see my Honda is costing a third of the Average Cost Per Mile of a 2009 Porsche Cayenne or BMW X5:

The TRUE COST OF OWNERSHIP:
Use Montana as the zip code: 59601

I'd get the X5. My parents had an 03 and it was bulletproof, we drove it 40,000km in a year from Vancouver to southern Ontario, from the southern US to Edmonton, super reliable and all it needed was brakes. They bought it with 80,000km and sold it with 120k, cost $940 to own in two years worth of driving. Only lost 4 grand selling it as well, they keep great resale. They are now considering an 07+ X5, they are great cars.

Both are expensive to repair. Don't compare it to a Pilot or a Suburban, I think there was a thread reviewing the cayennes and someone said a brake job with rotors cost around 2 grand? That's fucking ridiculous, and the X5 won't be much cheaper. I'm sure regular maintenance like oil changes will cost atleast a hundred bucks, if you're paying out of pocket, because both will take synthetic oil and atleast 6 quarts of it, so do the math.

an oil change is like $200 and lasts you about 15,000km. Brakes were like $900 on an 03 X5

Front brakes + Rotor = ~650 or something. It's right on their bill board in the service area.

~70000kms too but have soft brake pads... *sigh* *brake dust*

Add a website link to BMW Gallery in your signature, why make us Goggle it? I tried to Google it and got distracted by an Audi advert....

I don't want to make it unfair to our paid sponsors so I don't want to stretch the advertising rules to much. Putting a phone number and a website link would be a bit unfair to the hard working beyond sponsors.

Oh come on, Ryan, as if you aren't already stretching the rules. :)

Oh, I assumed wrongly that you were a paid sponsor. I did check out your inventory of pre-owned BMW cars, nice M5 in there and plenty of others. Great now I am getting banned for my comments pointing others towards another website, if so I will become BMWkid.

I am thinking to ship the X5 from vancouver, they have more selections there and the price is cheaper as well..
