I feel like I’ve seen every good movie ever made from 1910-2010. I’ve tapped a lot of Euro, Japanese, Korean and Hong Kong movies as well. Reps to anyone that can list an exceptional movie that stands out with a good story and acting that I have not yet seen. It can be from any genre and any country. Please don’t make a list with 100 of your favorite movies. Just a short list explaining why you think the movie you listed is worth watching.

yeah been through most of the list. I think the list is dog shit though. Ever since 2000 when every kid in the world got a computer and an internet connection it’s only been downhill from there. Some movies in a top 20 are a freakin joke. It used to be great though.

I’ve been through hundreds of indie movies. Cannes, Sundance, Toronto. Heck I even went to crap like Crispin Glover’s movies were he tours around in person to present his fucked up creations lol. The amount of crap i've seen is crazy. I'm stooping so low i'm watching psuedo snuff crap from Japan like Guinea Pig out of boredom lol. The Japanese are definately the most fucked up film makers. At the same time, some of the most genious.

Even documentaries. I'm out of documentaries too.

Here's a few of my favourites. If you're a movie buff I'm sure you've seen them all.

1. Dark City: This one's at the top for no reason other than it's grossly underrated. Most people haven't even seen it, despite how influential it was in 21st century science fiction films.

2. 28 Days Later: This is how you fucking make a zombie movie. I'm a big fan of this genre, but it's often difficult to find a movie that mixes the perfect amount of zombie grunge with high production value. This movie has done just that.

3. Requiem for a Dream: In my opinion this is Darren Aronofsky's best work. Clint Mansell did a phenomenal job on the score of this film. Every time I watch this movie I feel like I've been hit by a truck. I don't know if that's a good thing or a bad thing. None the less I consider the directing in this film to be some of the best of all time.

4. A Clockwork Orange: I'm singing in the rain.

I'm in the exact same situation as you. I have way too much time on my hands lol.

Not that it's a good movie but have you seen A Serbian film? It's definitely original..

Edit: Wat about [rec] 1 & 2?

Lost in Translation, Momento, that one movie where a British black guy is living with some Russian chick and they work at a hotel and he is blackmailed or offered a green card to take peoples organs out to sell on the black Market. Fuck I'm sure you've seen these too but I have a folder of movies that are my favourites on my laptop that's fucked right now so those are the ones I can remember. Oh and Children of Men. You definitely seen these if you aren't Bsing about being an glorified good movie watcher.

Edit : movie I was describing is Dirty Pretty Things.

I've personally see most of those and think that these movies are good in their own right. If the movie description interests you you can youtube a trailer. Let us know which ones you havnt seen and your thoughts afterwords.

Are you into American Indie films??? Here's a couple comedies I really liked recently......

Hump Day...

http://www.rottentomatoes.com/m/humpday/

and, most recently I saw City Island...the climax of the movie is at the at end but well worth, absolutely hilarious...

http://www.rottentomatoes.com/m/city_island/

Also, a movie called Extract, which I saw recently was really funny too.....it's the most recent movie by Mike Judge (Office Space, Clerks, etc.)....has a few good comedic actors in it, most notable Jason Bateman from Arrested Development...

There are maybe 3 others i haven't seen but they don't grab me. The only docu i haven't seen in the Ali one. I might grab it, i liked Tyson. Thanks for your post

just watched it last night. Wasn't bad but i didn't think it was anything special. The prison cell interview plot point with the guilty / innocent ending has been done to death (Dead Man Walking, The Hurricane, etc.). The major actors felt like they were just going through the motions. None of the characters were really enjoyable, Kate Winslet's acting was on par with a morning soap. The overall contrived plan of the plot seemed ridiculous and the story was based around making political and social commentary instead of just telling a good story. And no matter what side of the debate your on, i don't like movies that push agendas. I think it's a weak way of garnering an emotional reaction from your audience when your story is not engaging enough.

But thanks for the mention and it proves I am going to actually watch some of these hehe. Of course this is all IMO do don’t take my review personal or anything.

No problem man. I havnt seen gods and monsters or the secret in their eyes but both have decent reviews on imdb/rotten tomatoes. For some reason I put the wrong imdb link for bronx tale, I have since updated it. I can think of a bunch of good movies but chances are you've seen the mainstream ones so just trying to think of ones that are less well known.

yeah exactly. I dont need people to link Godfather, Goodfellas, Memento, Blade Runner, Glengary Glen Ross. I mean i've seen all that stuff. Your list was good and even though i've seen most of them, that's the kind of movies i'm looking for.

As for newerish movies, definitely the Millennium Trilogy is the must watch. I knew they're re-releasing them for NA audiences in a dubbed version. But grab the Swedish language version with English Subs. Dubbing totally destroys the acting element from a movie, which is %50 of what makes a movie good. Too bad the author died because he could continue writing more (I know a fourth book was partially finished). Stupid holywood is already talking about remaking it, which is a joke since the movies are only a couple of years old to begin with. I guess they think stupid Americans only want to see movies with American actors. At least David Fincher is remaking it so it actually might not be too bad.

of course not all. Seen the staples. Seven Samurai, Rashomon, Yojimbo, Ran, Hidden Fortress. I'm way Samuraied out though lately. Been through When the Last Sword is Drawn, Sword of Doom, Zatoichi, Samurai Assassin and a bunch of others i can't even remember off the top of my head.

For a more modern movie i thought When the Last Sword is Drawn was excellent

Not really movies or documentaries but there are a bunch of dvd/bluray sets from the bbc like life, planet earth, other ones about the universe etc which are all well done. The imax featuretes are also available on bluray and are probably pretty cool to watch although I haven't done so personally.

I really liked the movie (2007)

Parfume: the story of a murderer.
Its pretty off beat from all the well known genre's movies are based off of.

The French foreign film "Irreversible" Is really really intense.
Its seriously fucked up, probably the most intense movie I've ever seen. Watching it after smoking a few bowls is a REALLY bad idea. Its seriously a fucked up movie. If you haven't seen it, download it. You wont find it in movie stores, trust me.

Next up would be Cannibal Holocaust. Its a shitty movie, but it has some funky footage that caused the arrest and jailing of the directors. Again you wont find it in movie stores, that much I can guarantee you.

thanks guys, some quality non mainstream recommendations coming. I've seen Irreversible, Cocaine Cowboys, Felon and City of God. All great choices. Loved Cocaine Cowboys is probably my pick out of those even though it’s a documentary. Grabbing Primer and Perfume. Both sound interesting

Check out Los Cronocrímenes/(Timecrimes), I havnt seen this movie but its supposed to be pretty good. Im not sure how simular it is to primer but it deals with time travel. Its also a spanish film.

Some of these trailers look crappy but the movie is supposed to be good.

Ive already posted links for mr. nobody and sleep dealer, and although they dont have to do with time travel they are sci-fi. I havnt seen these particular movies but im looking forward to watching them when I get a chance.
