Seems to be a lot of weird stuff on ebay lately.

Check this auction out, and see if you can figure out why everyone who placed a bid is an idiot, and the king of the idiots (the auction winner) gets to pay for the joke

lol....I have seen that before. I saw a guy sell pictures of a car, but of course the auction made it look like he was selling a car.

Whoever paid for that defenitaly got owned... :drama:

If some moron is so stupid that he'll buy something without reading the description carefully then it's his own fault.

All those guys had 0 trader ratings though, so I'm sure the bids weren't serious. Probably people he knew. But the poor bastard seller has to pay a certain percentage of the final amount to ebay for fees - he's probably regretting it now...

My friend knew a guy who would bid for horses and washing machines for fun, but never planned to buy. He got a kick out of upping prices...

yeah and that one guy outbid himself several times so I'm sure that at least some of those bids are fake. I just wonder if the last few bids are genuine. I hope for those people's sake that they're not.

Yah a few guys sold the "X-Box Box" for 200+ when it first came out. Some people are retarded and they deserve to lose their money.

Even though I know it's a scam and some people have more money than brains but:

"It does NOT come with software or cables. It only comes with what you see in the pictures."

Sure it might not come with software or cables, but is that not the powerbook in the 3rd picture?

You obviously dont use ebay.

That is what you call Proxy bidding.

Say the item is at 10 bucks, and I am willing to pay 100. I bid 100 but the price of the item goes up to the next bidding incrament (11 bucks for example) So that if the aution end at 11, you dont have to pay 100.. It will auto bid whenever someone else bids on it untill it gets to 100 bucks. So someone might bid 20, it will accept the bid but will tell you that someone (me) has still outbid you, so you bid again untill you overcome that 100 buck mark in which case YOU now are the high bidder. make sense?

yeah, if you're retarded, this is actually good for you. it genuinely helps you by showing you how much of a retard you are, because you're too retarded to know.

The only person who got owned is the seller.

The buyer has a 0 rating, and considering the first bid they made is on some bullshit bid for a box, I'm willing to bet that the seller won't see a penny. Ebay, however, will charge the seller a % of the winning bid.

So in the end, the seller will pay Ebay, and no one will pay the seller.

*edit: nevermind, everything I said had already been said :banghead:

I feel sorry for the people who get scammed buying fake designer stuff and paying large sums of money for it. It peeves me when I see ebay scammers advertising their stuff as authentic when it is blatantly fake. :thumbsdow

Another question, if the seller has to pay ebay a percentage of the selling price as explained in the cardboard box example, aren't the people selling this 'island' going to be on the hook for a VERY large sum of money if the buyer isn't serious? I'm assuming it's a fake bid as the asking price was $21M and he bid $74M...

Looks like the $74M bid was deleted or retracted because it's now $21M.

That made sense, and I'm familiar with that, but look at kashto - there were no intermediate bids there to trigger the next bid by him. Just a whole bunch of bids by him one after the other, unless the proxy bid eliminates the intermediate bids from the bid history. Here have a look:

icebergwallpaper( 1 ) US $1,225.00 Dec-17-03 11:09:06 PST
itprofession( 1 ) US $1,200.00 Dec-15-03 22:47:41 PST

kashto( 1 ) US $1,050.00 Dec-16-03 17:27:07 PST

1badPT: Look at the time and date of itprofession's bid.

All of kashto's bids were not done by proxy; he submitted a live bid each time, hoping to beat itprofession's earlier $1200 bid. Each time kashto bid, he was instantly beat by itprofession's bid, until he gave up at $1050. As you can see, all of kashto's bids took place after itprofession's bid.

icebergwallpaper did the same thing, but his first bid was beat because he submitted an equivalent bid to itprofession's $1200. He tried once more and won the auction at $1225. Sucker!

I believe if you issue a non-paying bidder alert to ebay, you don't have to pay the fees associated with the final auction value. Only the insertion fees.
