Part 1 here: http://forums.beyond.ca/st/262062/maxboost-gets-strong/

Background. Timeline, started April 2009.

- Starting numbers, bench 80, press, 45, squat, 105, Deads 115
- Rippetoe Starting Strength for 3-4 months
- Took 2 months off to heal from surgery
- Started lifting again but made no gains, I had no passion, didn't feel like doing it.
- Started making lame excuses for not doing squats and deads.
- Decided to do 5/3/1 in May but just for press and bench. Gained 20lbs on both.
- Got called out by a few more well known members on here and decided enough was enough. A790's rant on VB142 was the tipping point, refer to my sig.

The program: 5/3/1 by Jim Wendler

http://forums.beyond.ca/st/310777/maxboost-5-3-1-work-out/

Me: 5'5 155lbs

Cycle 1:
1 Rep Max:
Bench: 145
Press: 115
Squat: 200
Deads: 200

No need to wish me luck or motivate me, it's all from within. I don't need 15 pages of motivational talk before I start day 1.

Day 1 is tonight.

:whipped:  :guns:

Can we expect daily updates?

Has it been deemed safe medically for you to undertake this journey? Under what circumstances will you quit?

Best of luck

You and me both. I'm just starting out as well. I just finished reading the book and I'm on cycle one, week 2.

Good to hear you finally decided to do squats and dead lifts though haha. I hate those two exercises but its pretty necessary.

Hate squats and dead lifts!! So boring, takes so much energy and I cant do my after workout runs after them!!!!

^^

Run after squats and deads? Are ya crazy? I can barely walk the next day  hahaha

It is a necessary evil for building mass and strength. Enough excuses. Time to fucking man up!

I hit the gym for the first time in 3 years, on Monday. Have a great weight program and nutritional program to follow, I'll probably make a thread once I've reached my goals.

Atta boy Sam.

Squatting heavy, doing some 10 rep squat sets. Then seeing if you can do a 20 repper with the same weight and you finish the 20 repper squat set but think that there is a disco ball/lights in the gym.

You sit down for 10-15 minutes, wondering what you are doing...finally realizing that your clothes, wallet and everything is in the locker room which is 4 half - flights of stairs. Even worse is that you have to go down those same stairs to leave the gym.

Good luck max. I hope you keep the weight progressing for a few waves. Which part of the program are you doing?

Damn I pulled a VB142 and didn't lift last night hahaha

Had a friend leave town but tonight I'll start. I already did bench and press earlier in the week.

Oz- Doing "Boring but Big" I should be able to progress many cycles I'm sure. After stalling on bench and press for a long time, I was shocked how easily I was able to break through those plateaus doing 5/3/1. This is the 5th cycle for those two lifts alone. The assistance work (10 reps at 65%) was gold and probably made the most difference.

Right now I'm just thrilled at the idea of doing 10 rep squats tonight. No pain, no gain.

Good luck dude! Im putting my body threw a (i call it the 8 Days of hell) workout routine hhaha

Going on Vacation for 8 days so Its going to consist of A LOT of Cardio workout, sleep, *healthier* eating and lifting.

Im hoping to loose 10lbs in the process with the shit Im gonna put myself threw haha.

Best of luck to you dude! Stay strong!

Just did week 1 of squats. Oh man I'm somewhat surprised I still got it despite not doing any for at least 6 months hahaha

My legs feel like jello like they are going to break at anytime. Tomorrow should be fun. The 5 reps are no problem, it's the 5 sets of 10 reps, although at only 65% just fucking wrecks you.

Gonna take a day break and see how I feel. Up next is the dead lift. Awesome.

Never played tennis before.

Just got up and right now I can't feel my legs. Hopefully I don't have to suffer a week of DOMS

Just a quick update, my bench is getting significantly strong.

I pulled off a 135X10 bench the other night. Shocked the shit out of me lol

I'm also finally healed from my first squat session in 7-8 months haha the DOMS was painful for the first 2-3 days lol

Badminton tonight, deadlift tomorrow night. Gonna be interesting. Perhaps more DOMS to come because of deads?

Bench and press doesn't even affect me anymore. 'Don't feel a single thing the next day. I can do them on consecutive days no problemo.

Good luck with the 2.0 :) I just started back up after a 9 month layoff with frozen shoulder.....lost lots of size and strength and gained a gut. Last thing I want is to be the classic skinny fat guy.

I followed your first thread quite regularly, I was starting to really respect your motivation and was listening to some of your advice. Then you said you said you stopped squats and pulls, my respect went down the tubes and I plugged my ears. Here’s hoping you keep “pullin”...

/I'll follow this for a bit.
//Good luck

Will redo my first cycle when I get back next week. Currently on a 3 week vacation in China. There are no squat cages here lol

IT TOOK FOREVER. I basically did the first cycle TWICE because I had a month off in between with vacation and recovering from jet lag.

BUT

CYCLE 2 started last week. I still weigh 155. Staying around maintenance for calories wise but lots lots of protein haha

1 REP MAX:

Bench: 150
Press: 120
Squat: 210
Deads: 210

Getting strong and feeling good.

Mid way through Cycle 3

1 REP MAX:

Bench: 155
Press: 125
Squat: 220
Deads: 220

Clearing the #'s no problem on bench/squat/deadlift. For fun I pulled off a 225X5 deadlift yesterday even though my max effort was supposed to be 200X3. I just wanted to see if I could do it lol

Overhead press getting tough and might be the first lift to stall. I squeezed out a 115X2, 1 rep short of required. I'll see if I have any difficulty with the 120, 1 rep max effort next week.

Stay strong and keep lifting.
