G'day all,

looking for a bit of a confirmation... Think my laptop is done... Gateway MX3210; been having issues with the hard drive over the past year - ended up swapping out 4 - assuming HDD failure or it got knocked around a bit too much... Stupid part is - been able every time to recover data using a USB SATA enclosure.

Well yesterday BSOD, reboot to failure - corrupted registry. Try to run chkdsk blows chunks allover - complaining about IO errors at 000000X0. Try to run system recovery with the vista install disk - blows chunks again, BSODs "unable to recover" "device IO errors at ..."

Working with ubuntu live - but having trouble accessing the HDD to backup some recent pictures...

Guessing since it's a laptop - I'm not going to be able to change out the HDD controller and probably just need to suck it up and look at a replacement?

Advice?

Andy

Did you replace it with a different make/model drive each time?

Have you looked around online to see if anyone else is having similar issues?
