I had an amazing time shooting the fireworks at the "Celebration of Light" in Vancouver.

I was excited to share, so I'll start this month's thread! :D

Family dinner on Sunday turned into a prompt to excuse to do a photo session of my niece. So can't wait for her 1 year birthday so we can get some messy cake shots done. I have to admit I'm loving my new studio setup.

This is what I call in the right place at the right time moment. I've been working up to it for some time to really approach the powers that be about getting an opportunity to photograph these events. I happened to be shooting a show for my Fiance and her friends and we happen to see John Anderson doing some practice jumps with a world class horse named Terrific. These horses are just frigging amazing when you see them doing this up close.

The little girl in these photos is actually my son's little girlfriend. Turns out the backdrop scared the crap out of her (when it's being lowered it sounds a little like thunder), so we had the boys (my little guy and abyss/hampstor's little guy Graham there for distraction. While calming her down, the boys tried to show her how to get things done so I snapped a few of them as well.

Beginning to really hate Nikon introducing more and more products that are just too hard to say no to. I will openly say the 24mm F1.4 is one of the best primes I've ever had the chance to use. IQ is just insane on it. Now only if they could give me a 35mm or 50mm worthy of the same quality.

hrmm, cant seem to post the image.

I took this photo out on a field course near Barrier Lake about a 2 weeks ago. This area was clear cut for some weird reason and then just a few weeks later, a "mysterious" flood had flooded the entire station. This happened about 2 years ago and the logging company has never owned up to it. GRRR!

If boudoirs are something you want to get into, invest in a plain white douvet/blanket and maybe another one (or even some material) with a romantic pattern on it like a B&W damask or something like that. Then you can use it for under or behind your model. Works like a charm for those impossible locations.

C'est singing in the rain is just a beautiful ting. Trash the dress is always something fun. Hard to believe it just happened to be 3 degrees celcius, raining and well by the time we hit the water we were all frigid. I need to convince more brides into doing this. Best part is everybody walking up saying omg you poor people a wedding day like today or the couple being re-congratulated a year after the date.

sure it's not just the spots of crap falling off the car? lol

great shots goddchocula...helluva way to introduce yourself :D especially for a guy that according to your flickr just started lighting car shots earlier this year...wicked results.

Thanks!

The reason I posted in here was to get some real feedback. Gotta keep progressing. As for the pchop... I am slowly teaching myself how to get in there and remove things like rigs. Never used it until I had a rig shot to work on.

I will edit it some more and replace it.

its not odd at all because the model is not making eye contact with the camera so you dont tend to look at her.

we as humans tend to look for eyes in any pictures, if we dont see them than we look at the next object in the frame.
in this instance it happens to be the bike.

Hey guys, I've been playing with my Pentax K20 for a couple weeks now. It's a huge learning curve from the point and shoot I had before, but here's something Ive come up with.

I'd love to hear some thoughts about how I can improve a pic like this.http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v730/meed/Random/duck.jpg

D'oh, this was supposed to be in Septembers thread...

Thought about it, was pretty broke. Finances are looking up these days so its not really looking like it anymore. I just made plans to order a FZR1000 swing arm and rear wheel, and possible fabricate the rear to fit a 600rr tail, make the bike look a little more aggressive, and get it outta the 90's. :burnout:

I'm only a beginner but the first thing I noticed was the white balance being off

Here is a 10 second touch in light room
I used the eye dropper and picked the side of the duck to set white balance
increased the exposure by 1/3 stop
lightly couched the contrast

Others on here could do much better with it then I can.

Your composition is a little off, the second duck is way too close to the edge of the frame and there's a little too much blank space on the right hand side.

Do a search for basic photography rules (rule of 3rds, leading lines, framing etc) and then look at some pictures you like and see how they use them. Feel free to break the "rules" but it really helps to know them first.

Personally, I feel the shot would be stronger if the camera was lower to the ground. Shot from "duck height" if you will.

Thanks guys, I think my laptop monitor isn't the best for photo editing.
