I'm thinking of buying an S2000 with the intention of driving it in the winter. Is it driveable during Calgary winter on just winter tires and a couple of sandbags in the trunk?

I drive an RX8 right now and I manage just fine.

why wouldnt you buy it AND a shitty beater for winter?

As long as you don't engage the vtec in winter you will do fine:D

Sand bags, winter tires you'll be fine.

Sure its a convertible, but who the fuck cares, its also a Honda...

Theres a guy on here, his name escapes me, he has had an s2000 for years and drives it all year long. I see absolutely no reason why not to, unless you have another car that you could drive during the winter

as long as you have winters, it doesnt matter, there will be a couple days out of the year you cannot drive the car

Get winters, don't go over 4000rpm. And don't spazz out if the back end steps out a little bit.

I believe xviper drives all year long. Best to ask him what it takes.

Drove my during the winter without top of the line winter tires either. I used Kumho KW17 and it was fine. LSD really helped but the lack of traction control made it interesting.

The real killer will be ground clearance.

:werd: otherwise it's like any other RWD car. Do people still even use sandbags??

It's not necessary, but it can be useful, maybe more so in a car like 350z

I seriously agree with the very first comment...

...sure you can buy an S2K and drive it only in the winter... but why the fuck would you want to? :dunno:

Winter tires (e.g., blizzaks) and you'll be fine.

A good set of winter tires, and a bit of common sense and you'll do fine. I know several people that drive them in winter. They handle fine, and ground clearance is fine most days.

Exactly! I didn't get a chance to change my tires in time once and I was literally driving down the road staring out my passenger side window!!

Be sure to get some good tires, and as for not driving the car in the Winter, I bought this car to drive as much as i can! Hell, last winter when it got nice enough, my top was down! haha

Yes, you do have to be careful but it's not a bloody Ferrari or Lambo!

Exactly.

I almost even cringe when people say, why would you want to its a "sports car"

LULZ, ok its a convertible but its not a supercar, it was built to drive, and can be driven in winter with the right equipment, if you love your car drive it!

getting winter tires is key..
other details is: dont get staggered tires, and get narrow tires.
