I remeber seeing a chart with HID rating comparison outputs on... Anyone remember where it was?

Showed you 8000k against 4200k for example....

Basically a colour chart showing all the different ratings.

Cheers ;)

This isn't the chart to which you refer, but it's good reading.

That link is spot on.....

Now i`ve found a place that does 9005 and 9006 bulbs for my ITR.....

BOTH sets come in at $1,559.21 USD

Thats MAIN and DIP..... For the 6000k kits...

The 4100K is slightly cheaper.

Is 4100K better than 6000K - 6000 gives less light?

Any one have any experience with HID? I don`t wanna waste my cash.....
Cheers ;)

IMO, ~4100K is the best because it give you the most lumens for a given ballast wattage. The human eye is also more sensitive to yellow-white light than it is to blueish light.

I tried the 6000K bulbs and they don't perform nearly as well as the 4100K bulbs. Sure the 6000K bulbs may look nicer to other drivers, but I'm concerned about how well I can see.

Here are photos I took when I tried 4100K bulbs and 6000K bulbs. Shot on Nikon F2 with Fuji daylight film.

The 4100K kit is cheaper too..... :D $1,300.04 USD

Looking good ;) Pics have made my mind up......

Just the heat thing now. My projectors on the ITR will be ok won`t they? They ain`t gonna melt?

A typical HID bulb puts out less heat than a typical halogen bulb, so heat is not a problem.

However the issue might be your halogen lenses weren't designed explicitly for HID, so you might get glare after you do the swap.

Your itr have soft lens projectors...unless you have the jdm swap with real projectors..anyways, the soft lens reflect light back into the housing where as hid projectors project it forward. I just did a retrofit on mine, put in some audi projectors with 4100k philips bulbs. To be honest, i wouldnt get high beams for your car. It takes hids 10seconds to warm up, and really bad for the bulbs, if you keep turning them on and off, its not recommened you turn them on more than 3 times in an hour. If your thinking of doing a projector swap, dont buy the 9006 rebased bulbs, buy the true d2s bulbs. And yes 4100k puts out more than 6000k light wise, and thats why 6000k doesnt meet DOT specifications, however 6000k is legal to use oem wise in europe.

Edit: i'll get pictures up of the difference from non projectors and projectors, and show you how you get a nice cutoff with projectors(hid projectors). BTW i can get you a d2s kit for alot cheaper than that, especially if you just go with the single kit

So what`s in volved with retrofit kits then?

Much of a job?

Appreciate your help dude ;)

well it took me about 12hours total in retro fitting my projectors in. Bulbs were easy with retro fit, just went right into the projector. I'll find the link of doing a retrofit in a type r so it would be that much easier. you can get a set of d2s bulbs, ballasts, and projectors for under 400$us..

Cheers dude. Appreciate it ;)

You fitted them to a teg?

I`m presuming they replace the domed bit in the dip liamp housing? Is it a case of removing the lamp unti, splitting it, fitting new projector dome, then bulb, ballast etc?

Since you have projectors already in there its easier than what i had to go threw. anyways heres a link on how to do it. I fitted mine into my camry, took apart the whole headlight housing etc...i'll get pictures of mine later.

oh ya the link: http://www.skafia.com/itr/hid/

Still gotto split them :/

I`m hearing good things about these :

http://www.hid-online.com/products/kit.asp?id=27

They are D2 lamps with custom bases, so they fit straight in....

Yeah, thats what all the good xenons are, are d2s bulbs rebased to 9006. If you plan on doing a projector retrofit, dont buy the 9006 bulbs, for they wont fit in projectors.

What you mean buy split them???

Manguish
12-20-2003, 02:45 PM
The plastic has to be "baked" and split from the rear of the light unit....

As in the pics in the link.

I don`t REALLY wanna do that...... Read some nightmare stories....... Major expense once you have to start buying new lamp units....

I think the 9006 jobs with the D2 ends will do fine in my stock projectors.....

Unfortunatly it`ll be after xmas before i get chance to order them :( I think they are shut.....

Just found a pic of someones teg with HIDs fitted to standard projectors.... 6500K in this one...

I think i`m going for 4100K

Yeah, they might look fine, but you gotta see the light output. I got a free extra set of headlights, thats one of the only reasons i did it, because i didnt have to worry about trashing them too bad.

Try and get a picture of stock projectors with xenons up against a wall or garage.

I`ve emailed the guy whose got them ;)

Soon as i sort them out, i`ll let you all know...

Cheers for your help mate ;)

Manguish is from the UK. Would he have the real projectors from the factory?

That's good advice. Halogens work well enough for the high beam.

well if he has the circle light slike pictured, there not hid compatible, there soft lenses for halognes like said before. The only one i believe is the jdm ones that are actual xenon projectors, or atleast work really well with it. yeah, my halogens somewhat work with my xenons, kinda blinded out tho, cause xenons so much brighter, but not worth it to get xenon highbeams, cause u will go threw bulbs everymonth, lol. I'll get pictures up tonight

Well. I fitted the 4100K phillips kit and here are the results.....

Fitting : 30mins - the easiest job i have probably done on the teg
Kit : Well presented, informative instructions

you must have different projectors from a standard itr, cause you got a good cutoff for stock from those. is urs a rhd or lhd? thanks

UK Spec.... RHD....

The projectors are a lot clearer looking than those soft projectors i have seen in other cars....

Almost look like proper hid ones. I`ll post some daylight pics of em after xmas....

*PICS DO WORK FOR THOSE THAT HAVE AN X, MY HOST IS DOWN ATM ;)*

If you can, get a picture at nighttime, near no light if you can find it, on an open road of sort, just to see how the light is spread out, to see if its brighter than most soft lenses.
