Just a FYI for the photographers on here, there is supposed to be a pretty decent Northern Lights show in the sky tonight (Aug 3 Night / Aug 4 Morning).

National Post article for more info:

Worth a look for sure if they are as intense as claimed. I saw them once while in Saskatchewan, and was really amazed how defined and intricate they appeared.

Maybe I am blind or stupid, but is there a time or location? I assume out of the city lights is better than in the city. Does it go while it is dark or what?

Might be worth a bit of a drive outside of city limits.

Check out this video

I've only seen these once in my life and I was in the city (riding my bike), it was really clear in the sky. I would imagine driving just outside the city would make it even easier to see (and more importantly, capture in a shot) but its definitely not necessary.

Anyone know of a good spot to watch for them, that's not too far out of the city? Went out with the girlfriend last night around 11, headed west towards Bragg Creek hoping to escape some of the light pollution from Calgary, but we were unable to see a thing (except the stars and the Milky Way).

I wish I had my tripod around.

Here is an article on how to shoot them.

Did anyone see anything? I went to bed around 1145 but never saw anything. Otherwise I would have gone outside

The northern lights are such a beautiful phenomenon, but the ones seen from this far south are pretty tame. I remember as a kid in Yellowknife, how awesome they were, and then the best viewing I've ever had was outside of Fort Liard, mid-winter. It was truly awe inspiring, every colour of the rainbow dancing in the sky.

Would you say it was starting to look like a triple rainbow?

I was up until about 2, it was really too cloudy to see anything.

Went out tonight for a little bit. I'm further up north so I thought I'd see something, but I just got a few quarts of blood stolen by mosquitos instead.

I am disappoint.
