View Full Version : Is music ACTUALLY getting worse? (And people are liking it...)

I'll start off by saying I listen to x929 because I find they play the best variation of music, or at least they use too. I know this thread will be filled with "zomg get satellite! satellite ftw!!" etc so since I've already covered that base, lets try and keep those comments out ;)

Anyway, continuing on, x929 recently has changed the way they play music that you can vote for certain songs, also with the top 6 at 6 it can be literally any song... and I have to say I am very unimpressed.

I really don't understand the music they are playing and they call themselves an alternative station... Now I know everybody has different tastes in music, but I have to say I fucking hate Vampire Weekend. I don't get why people like it. Their first song that x929 start playing was "Cousins"... it sounds like an abortion of Bob Dylan music...

Couple that with the latest abomination "Giving up the Gun" which sounds like a song from The Lion King

How is a lot of this just not considered "pop" ?

Also , I do enjoy different variations of music from slipknot to arcade fire, and I can appreciate a lot of stuff New Pornographers have done, but their newer song "Hands Together" do not belong on an Alternative station (IMHO)

Is this bad, wanna be 60's music making a terrible comeback and being guised as Alternative?

It's terrible, and then they started playing music like Apocalyptica and Blue October, and I guess it wasn't "popular" enough, but is clearly more in line with the genre of music that Alternative's core is... Yet they don't play it at all!!!!! :banghead:

I know I'll likely get some flames from people who loves Vampire weekend and shit like that, but I'm sorry, I guess I just don't "Get it" , could somebody explain this to me?

(Sorry for my thoughts being so scrambled and all over the place, I know this is poorly written, I'm doing it on my coffee breaks today lol).

I'll also add, I don't like Nickelback, and I started listening to x929 since it isn't Nickelback every hour on the hour, however they can't possibly say that Nickelback isn't popular since that concert sold out in about an hour when they were coming to Calgary - so evidently there are tons of fans for them, and with that logic, why not play Nickelback to get more listeners if that's the way they are going?

^^ lol I rather listen to Nickelback than a lot of stuff the radio plays these days..

I used to listen to the radio in the 90s, like Power 107.3 but not anymore. Internet Radio FTW since there are so many specific catagories out there.

No. Music is still good, see, you used to be with it, then they changed what It was, now what you're with, isn't it anymore and what's it, is weird and strange to you. Try to be more open minded or you're going to end up just like that guy with 80's hair when you liked Nirvana.

Truth be told man, so would I.

It's shameful that I flip to cjay 92 when they start playing such shit like Vampire Weekend... truthfully i've found some more bands I like on Cjay (Hail to the Villain is actually pretty good!)

I'll also say, I hate a lot of the newer stuff old bands are playing. Look at the Gorillaz, long I have revered them as one of my favorite bands of all time... but fuck their new stuff is AWFUL.

Old stuff: Clint Eastwood
1V_xRb0x9aw

New shit: Rhinestone Eyes
bZR20t0Uu2M

Their new stuff sounds like fucking circus music! Read to the beat while listening to Rhinestone Eyes:

"Today I'm going to the grocery store
I'm off to buy some bacon, milk and eggs,
I drive to the store, wow I'm low on gas, better get some more,
I get into the store, and i walk to the dairy section oh no, the milk isn't on sale,
At least I got a coupon for my bacon to save 50%."

You could fucking say anything (since none of the lyrics on the song even rhyme) and it would be "music"

Couldnt be more wrong man, that Blue October song is about a year old, the Apocalyptica song is released this year, I enjoy A LOT of new stuff, but I just think main stream media has a backwards view of what the genre's actually are and everything is merging into Pop.

I also have a lot of Muse and Silversun pickups on my playlist. Also I love the Constellations, The dudes, and a lot of local artists.

its not the ppl that are liking it, its the little shits like it (15y/os-18y/o), to them this is music, this in turn makes the record industries look for similar bs because they say 'hey these little shits are a goldmine, lets produce more no-talent so called music', then other bands and singers try and imitate that fad (i.e auto-tune for example :guns: ) which = a whole generation of shitty music

thats how i see it, i used to listen to tons of rap up until 2004 when it got so damned unoriginal for the most part.

Electronic music i can still appreciate because of the creativity, but it is slowly becoming too mainstream, for those few artists who forgot their roots i.e Guetta, that shit is garbage now as far asa im concerned

I used to like 929 cause they played tool. But listening to 9 hours of shit to hear a tool song isn't worth it anymore

You're just getting old.

If you don't like what mainstream record companies are paying the mainstream radio stations to play, consider using this wonderful invention called the internet which allows you to explore and sample various interesting artists and genres. It's the cat's ass, old man.

:werd: I used to listen to rap/hiphop but for the most part I can't stand it now. Best example: T-Pain. I cannot stand his songs and he has absolutely no lyrical talent.

"Cause Ima buy you a drank
I'ma Take you home with me
I got money in the bank
Shawty what you think about that
Find me in the Grey Cadillac "
:banghead:

Pretty much all Hiphop/rap sounds like the same song sung to a different tune and the lyrics changed up abit here and there. The themes are always exactly the same with some slang changes here and there and once someone thinks of a new word, every rapper uses it. i.e., Hoes, bitches, now its shawty, etc. I mostly listen to rock/alternative now.
