British soldier gets clocked by Strathmore RCMP going 173kms/hr in a 60km zone. He was also swerving and weaving in and out of traffic.

He gets charged with dangerous driving, and ends up with $800 ticket.

Do you think that's enough punishment?
And can the RCMP suspend the drivers license of someone from another country?

Only an 800$ ticket?

I got $575 for 53 over in Banff.... this is bullshit!

Edit: That's also after hiring a lawyer too...

That 60 zone is bullshit anyways. I'm sure it's only that long purely to help strathmore make money on fines.

wtf????
I got a ticket once for doing 92km/h over and it was 1100$ plus 2 months suspension and i was on a deserted highway 2.

why does law always seem to have double standards?

It's extremely hard to enforce for people from out of country. Canada probably can't do anything to their license, other than ban them from driving here again, as well as it's not fiscally worth chasing down if he goes home and doesn't pay it.

They probably figured that for $800, there's still a chance he'll pay it.. What if he doesn't? They going to send him a letter in Britain saying they've revoked his privileges? They going to send it to a Canadian Collection Agency?

Dangerous driving is a criminal charge. The $800 fine could be from the criminal court.

I find it ironic that when I charge someone from a stolen car that they will get far more punishment from the no insurance ticket than from the theft charges.

You call bullshit on a news story because of your personal experience with shitbox cars?
