Some really great shots there; it's quite noticable how many people are not smiling in any of the people shots...sign of the times I guess.

Wow, what an awesome collection of photos! I've never seen anything like this! It gives an entirely new and different glimpse into those days! Thanks for posting this! :thumbsup:

oddly enough, a couple days ago my uncle sent me an e-mail with a bunch of awesome b&w pics from that era. You don't expect to see color shots...

If you had paid attention to the title of the thread, and knew anything about history, you'd know that between 1939-1945, the second world war happened, when millions of people were being killed, and that in 1939 the United States was just coming out of it's worst depression in history. Not much to smile about is there?

Or it's because most people didn't have what you would call, good dental health care. Look at the 3rd girl in pic 11 to see what I mean.

Oh I'm sure they had great dental care, but most people probably didn't like having a hacksaw or a power drill in their mug!
But that did strike me, even the people dancing look unhappy.

keep in mind that these are pictures of rural folk at the end of the dustbowl and depression. of course they are going to look unhappy.
