We have been looking for a chow chow puppy since just recently buying a new home.

Now maybe I just wasn't aware this was going on since this is the first time looking for a pup in Calgary.

I have emailed several people with puppies for sale and have received basically the same email response now from 4 "different" people. Puppy will be delivered after receiving XXX dollars, etc.

Have others come across the same thing? Do people really send off XXX dollars hoping to receive a puppy?

Maybe this happens all the time and I was just unaware since I have never before looked. I'll post the email responses if anyone is interested.

On another note, can anybody recommend a chow chow breeder or know someone with puppies for sale?

That seems about right if you're searching on Kijiji.

Try http://beshiachows.tripod.com/aboutus.html or calling the Calgary Associated Dog Fanciers at 403-259-3265 - they might be able to help you out.

deposits to a reputable breeder for pups not ready yet are common, but alot of it can be risky. finding a place within driving distance and visiting the kennel to see the conditions etc and make a deposit in person are your best hopes for a good smooth purchase. especially if youre looking for a purebred chow

I will give them a call and see if they can point me in the right direction. Seems tough to find a pup locally. All of the local ads are scams. :dunno:

Don't look for a (backyard breeder) puppy on Kijiji. Find a reputable local breeder on the internet instead.

OP Same thing happened to me when I was looking for a Bull Dogs from Kijiji. I would contact sellers that had prices that were too good to be true and would get the same responses. Some wouldn't show pictures, some were from Africa, and etc. Really lame.

This. Make sure they will let you go to the place where the dogs are kept, don't ever buy a dog from someone that "will deliver".

Hope they don't ship UPS, brokerage fees would be rediculous on $13000

The problem is there seem to be very few local chow breeders. I'd definitely like to go and take a look at the pups before choosing one.

search for its associated kennel club of canada. they normally post lists of reputable breeders. you get what you pay for. spending more on a good breeder can save you thousands in vet bills down the road.
