View Full Version : Legendario Rum

So a friend of mine shared some of his Legendario Rum with me on the weekend that his friend bought back from Cuba and it was soooooo good. It was smooth and it only tasted like sugar cane, not even a hint of alcohol.

Now I want to buy a case. I called Willow Park, but they don't have any and haven't seen it for awhile. Does anyone know of an online site? Or another alternative besides going down to Cuba (though it might be worth it...it's that good)?

Every liquor store in Alberta gets their stuff from the same government warehouse. if Willow park can't get it, no liquor store in Alberta can.

Oh man, that stuff sounds good, lemme know if you find some.

Oh found this on another site:

"Not sure where to find this in Calgary, but try CSN Liquor store. They have ordered stuff in for me in the past. If you are in Edmonton try Aligra, Lacombe Spirits, or Sherbrooke."

I imagine this is what the guy on the Dos Equis commercial drinks when he's not drinking beer.

Available in one location in Alberta - used Alberta Liquor Guide's search page (http://www.alberta-liquor-guide.com/LC/LCCONSUM.nsf/CatalogMain?OpenFrameset) to find out it's available in Empress, Alberta. (link (http://www.alberta-liquor-guide.com/LC/LCCATALOGCONSUM.nsf/CustomerContact?OpenForm&customerNum=30030200))

Do you know if they will be getting any more in? I can't say I'm a big hard liquor fan, but if this rum is as good as you say it is then I wouldn't mind buying a bottle and giving it a shot.

The manager wasn't around when I was there to ask. But I will give them a call on Monday to see if I can order a few cases.

How's this stack up against Bajan rum, like Mount Gay (Extra Old, not the generic Mount Gay they have at Willow Park)?

Any update on availability of this? If it's sitting on the shelf anywhere, I'll drop in a buy a couple bottle this weekend.

I would call the distributor that I listed above if you want a quick answer, they are the only importer in Alberta and they should know where you could pick it up

Yea so I went and picked some up. had a couple sample glasses with the owner of the store. I ended up buying a few bottle's, BEYOND PRICING is 42, instead of the reg 45 or 46 or something.

anyways, it is the best rum I have ever had. I havn't taken a bath in 10+ years, but I'm going to be taking one soon, with a bottle, a good cigar.

oh and btw. its NOT the type of rum you mix. you drink it straight, for the flavour.

Can anyone compare this to the Havana Club 7 year?
http://www.simplycigars.co.uk/simplycom/images/0400000000961_XL.jpg

I'll probably pick up a bottle either way, but this is my current benchmark.

If you like straight drinking rums... here is a great spiced rum you will want to try.

94 proof and crazy amounts of flavour.

How does it compare to the Matusalem Gran Reserva, still the gold standard for me. Excellent noise (loads of vanilla!).

I've been trying several bottles recently hoping to find something a little cheaper (Matusalem is around $55) and nothing compares so far!

Also, I've found this site to be a pretty good review site for a lot of common rums that are fairly available:

Pretty sure that rumreviews site is useless if you want to know about cuban rum. Doesn't have the legendario or Matusalem, and only has the crappy puerto rican version of Havana Club.
Probably only review rums commonly sold in the USA, thus nothing cuban.

Thumbs down.

Matusalem is listed under Ron Matusalem Rum and I have found most of the dark rums and amber rums (my preference) in most liquor stores. In particular I have found that Crowfoot Liquor carries a good selection of rums.

If you have a better site that is more for rums available in Calgary then pass it on...
