yeah at least they could have gone forced induction (i.e the ever-popular yota v6 supercharger) for a lotus product of 3k lbs curb weight, who cares if it handles like its on rails if its just a fat pig.

I love Lotus, but I'm not feeling this car. 3000lbs and a weak engine for $100,000.00 does not make sense.

Funny how 0-60 in under 5 seconds is considered slow by today's standards.

Its true though. Cars for far less than half the price have been doing 0-60 under 5 seconds for over a decade.

Still a real nice car though. There's always the Esprit.

yeah.... i'd buy it for 50k

Z_fairladygirl
10-21-2011, 09:55 AM
This car is $100,000 cause it's the limited launch edition version, you can't buy them that way anymore, this was the first or the second Evora in Canada, you can now buy the regular, or Supercharged versions. Trust me, in this car the engine (which some ppl say is lame cause it's a tuned Camry) and the weight (which you would never know is what it weighs) don't matter, this car can make any person shit their pants, especially in sport mode, and it handles like a dream

The car looks amazing in the sun, rather than in the dark like at the beyond meet on Wednesday, but to truly appreciate it you need a cooky British guy to take you out in it and rip around like a mad man (aka Jabberwocky)

At any rate, I think this car's dead sexy , and it makes my car look silly when it sits beside it

Why would I ask them to buy me a car?
I love my car, besides they never bought me my car in the first place, I worked hard for my car and I want to keep her :D

I's not a legitimate argument, ppl are just jealous =P

You are taking the engine from a camry and putting it into a sports car an application the engine was never intended for :dunno:
This is a different approach from the 2ZZ

Z_fairladygirl
10-21-2011, 02:18 PM
Well as stated before the Evora is not built for speed, it is built for handling, but believe me it still kicks ass in the speed department

I had The pleasure of driving one today for the first time and i was very very very impressed with it's speed, and of course it's handling but that's a given =P

That still isn't really a legitimate argument though. Again it has no meaning. What tuning have they done, what is fundamentally wrong with the engine design that makes it not right for the application. That is like taking a cummins diesel, throwing it in a dodge stratus and saying that because it's been wrapped in a crappy package somehow that makes the engine garbage.

And anyways who said the limiting factor keeping the camry from being considered a sports car is the powerplant???

The Camry engine is crap because it's not designed for a sports car application, it will never sound good and it will never put out solid reliable power numbers. It's one of the main reasons that I sold my Elise with the Celica engine, even with the supercharger and other work I did to it the car had no torque and didn't sound good. It's also the same reason I sold my NSX, the car didn't sound good and without big money had no power.

Toyota can do so much better with Yamahas help, that Evora should have the 5.0 V8 from the IS-F instead.

http://www.popularmechanics.com/cars/reviews/comparisons/porsche-cayman-lotus-evora-comparison-test

The Lotus delivers a man–machine connection that we didn't think was possible—a car that every ride and handling engineer should sample. Plus it's full of character—you sit practically between the front wheels, the shape is as exotic as a Lamborghini, and the Toyota V6 is not only commendably smooth, it also cries a deep-throated wail like the Porsche. In today's world of blandness, an interesting ride that doesn't suffer a ride penalty is an alluring option. The Porsche is not only outright faster, it's cheaper and better quipped inside. Picking between the two is a bit like choosing your favorite Burt Reynolds movie. If you plan to commute in one of these two cars, the Cayman is a better option. It's simply a tick easier to live with. Give us 75 grand, however, and we're hightailing it to the Lotus store.

I don't fancy Porsche in the regular sense, but the GT series cars are amazing.

I think you just made some frenemies on beyond with that last post Shelby.

I am mostly interested in the seating position, outward visibility and general feel of the vehicle... not so much in test driving it at this point.

Hoping I can come across one in Calgary I can spend a few minutes with.

Get a Viper instead, then we can find a dealership in the states with a few on the lot and work out a group buy.
