Well, my possession date for the new house is rapidly approaching, and security is a concern high on the list.

I am looking to find some new locks for the house, and specifically, would like one of the locks to have a combination pad of some sort that does not require a key.

Rona and Home Depot only have ones like these:

just wondering if there are any places in Calgary that might offer more styles of this, something that looks more modern. Also need to have a couple door handles and another deadbolt re-keyed at the same time.

http://www.weiserlock.com/en/Products/SmartSeries/SmartScan.aspx <-- Using this for my gun room.

There is a few weiser locks on the website that look pretty good.

If you want, Ashland Hardware sells amazing multi-point locking systems (3pt and 5pt systems), and the hardware acceptance will take quite a few handlesets.

I like the smart-key system on these locks because it allows a homeowner to re-key a house without a locksmith.

Medeco or Mul-T-Lock.
I used Parry Bros for the supply and install. Pricey, but totally worth it. No reason ever to need a re-key with this type of lock either.

Very cool idea, but not really suitable for our weather. I've heard of lots of problems with these units in colder weather, but they may have solved some of those issues.

If it had a regular key, can't it be picked like a normal lock, and therefore all the electronic functions are pretty much useless anyhow. :dunno:

As for the 1st video, why does he use his finger print, and then swipe that card thing also? You may as well just have a prox card.

I have a keypad lock from home depot. Looks 10 times better than that one. I would check hd. They have finger print scans as well. U can program up to 10 finger prints

I've been buying a lot of stuff from Home Improvement Warehouse lately. I find their prices better than Home Depot and Rona:

Read up on bumpkey techniques and locks that are immune to that sort of thing. Also, those fingerprint locks aren't that great. They're easy to spoof. I watched a test where a guy took some scotch tape, lifted a shitty print off the doorknob, and opened the lock with it.

Personally, I wouldn't want to use a lock where I left a copy of my key on everything I touched.

The code locks I'm not too sure about yet. Personaly, I installed the Wieser smartkey locks in my house. I then had a totally random keyset made up, and use that.

I have a Sunnect lock on my doors and it works great. No key, just a code. Looks decent too...

not really a whole lot of interesting locks to pick up in calgary, at least that I could find.

The guy said these locks are bump proof as well, and I like that I can re-key my own locks in seconds.

I had one of these at my old house, it worked well! It's nice when visitors come over as there is no need to give them a key.
