I think I'm just going to buy a new desktop. Not going to be using it much for anything but internet and word/ excel.

but I'm considering these two:

In your opinion, which one is better?

For basic computing both are fine. But just looking at them side by side, the HP will be better in the long run.

If you need more speed you can upgrade your ram later. With the Acer(which appears to be 32 bit) you are limited to your initial 4GB.

Agreeing with NissanK: pretty comparable and for your needs either would work.

The Acer looks like it is 64bit as well - at the end of the page it states it comes equipped with 64bit Windows.

The HP comes with 7.1 sound if that's something you're concerned about.

Both come with Microsoft works, not MS office - just something to be aware of.

It's pretty much a coin flip as far as the specs, but I would probably go with the HP - better brand name in long run, IMO.

you can run internet, word and excell on a $400 netbook that you can fit in a small bag. Why even have a desktop?

The Acer has a faster video card, faster CPU and they are the same price so I'd pick it. That said, I have had a very bad time with Acer monitors so check it out before you buy it, I find the colour reproduction is terrible on them
