I think I need to take out some life insurance here and I'm just wondering if there is anyhting I should watch out for or stay away from. Also what would be a good company to go through?

Should I just get a bunch of quotes and go for the cheapest one?

most of the time they will show you a few companies. Make sure they listen to what you want.
