Definitely well over due except we won't see this for 1-2 years if they are just filing the patent application now which sucks. I knew it was only a matter of time before both Canon and Nikon switched to a better system.

I found the direct line of site on the canon system to be very fragile at the very best of times. I get the feeling they will incorporate a built in radio commander into higher level pro bodies in a few years.

I say yay to this even though I don't find myself using speedlights anymore.

I've read that canon/nikon has not developed this already because of the red tape involving radio frequency approvals. There is non of that red tape involved with IR transmission.

But then they have the WFT transmitters too, so I was like, if they can do it for the WFT grips, why couldn't they also do it for bodies and speedlites? And now it seems like they finally might do that. Hopefully.

This is a very old idea that I would love to see finally implemented in every camera.
