I am looking to disconnect my Telus Mobility account and will be looking at a $20/mo disconnection fee which amounts to $400. I was looking at their plans and see they have a plan for $20/mo. Is it within my rights as a customer to reduce my plan to this one and just ride out my contract, as opposed to paying the $400 now to disconnect?
I will be starting again as a new customer with another provider (undecided yet as to which one) and realize I will not be able to port my phone number if I do this. Any other drawbacks?

BE careful about switching plans, sometimes they try to say 'the plan was only for new customers so you must've extended your contract knowingly'. You can also put your plan on vacation mode for 6 months for 8 dollars a month.
Either way, isn't telus a piece of shit?

Biggest piece of shit in the telecom world, lol. You cant do the vacation mode thing because they add the time onto the end of your contract...

yeah im' on the vacation disconnect thing right now and i'll have to cancel my contract with them sooner or later.
does anyone know if you can put an IPHONE on the $20/month plan. i know at one point they had plans that were iphone specific and the lowest they had was $50/month.
can someone do me a HUGE favor and call telus and ask them? (im' out of the country and can't seem to get thru and their email responses are haggard) if it's possible to put an iphone on a $20/month plan?

if you dont plan on using the telus plan anymore since you are going with a different provider, you can just get them to enter in a dummy esn for your phone which would free up your iphone to use else where. Then you can drop to thier minimum $20 plan.
otherwise just throw a cheap regular phone onto the plan and keep it around for emergencies, might as well retain the option to use it if you need. give it to a parent, grandparent and it in thier glove box for emergencies..etc
