View Full Version : Possible car choices?
Hey guys,
I got asked a question today and I didn't quite know how to answer it.
I was asked, "What are my choices of cars if I had...
- $15,000 cash
- LHD or RHD
- domestic, import, JDM.
- must be 4 doors
- Cannot be larger than a V6."
So... given that list, what can you guys come up with?
I basically listed off the usual.
Jetta/Golf, Yaris, Matrix, etc etc... I didn't know what else to say.

Would stick with the Subaru. Was gonna suggest IS300, but WRX is better is so many ways.

this is a dumb point in making a vehicle choice... it should be a must get better than xxL/100km point instead, why?
well personally i have owned V8s with better mileage than some 4cyl cars i have owned... and right now my 3.8L V6 powered jeep gets the same highway mileage as a 5.7L V8 durango!

B5 AUDI S4 if you want the largest luxury/performance combo for that kind of money.
Otherwise my vote goes for a 2005 and on Legacy GT, G35, WRX, E39 BMW 5 Series, etc.
So many great cars in that price range if you don't care about warranty.

Me... I will never buy a RHD car unless it is a model not sold in Canada and for track use only.

The list of cars is endless. I mean, what is the vehicle going to be used for? Offroad? Kid-hauling? Single person? Sport/spirited driving? Summer-only?
I could list you 30 cars right now that are around 15g and 4 doors. You might want to provide SOME sort of direction, or you're going to be expecting people to provide you with an almost endless list of vehicles.
And the requirement of a V6 or smaller is (as already mentioned) a useless requirement. My Corvette only uses 9L/100k on the highway - which is better than many V6's... especially performance models.
How about how old of a vehicle? You could buy one hell of a 1993 Land Cruiser for 15g, with a V6 with horrible mileage, but I doubt that is the intention.
...and if the budget is 15k, I wouldn't even bother looking at RHD models. You look at those when you have 5-10k, and can't find a LHD vehicle with enough performance.

A good condition, fully optioned Honda Civic if you are just looking for a decent, reliable daily driver.
