HDMI out from laptop, no audio, plz help

Hey so I hooked up HDMI cable from my laptop to the tv

video looks great but I get no sound from the tv. The only sound I get is from the laptop speakers.

I've been trying to check and change settings but can't really resolve this.

By the way I'm on windows 7. Please share your help thanks

close any media players
right click the speakers at bottom right
click playback devices
set the tv to default while it's connected
reopen media player

If that doesn't work, what player are you using?

For all my playback over HDMI, I change everything in the player itself, I've never changed windows defaults.

When I right click the speaker there is no "playback devices" option

I'm using windows media player n vlc. Can settings be changes in player itself? If so plz guide me thanks

Reinstall the sound drivers

In the sound options, under playback devices, there should be an option to display disabled devices. Are any listed?

Normally, there should be multiple audio devices listed, select the HDMI as default

HDMI out is tricky with audio as most sound cards need to be configured to set the default digital audio output.

you have to get to the sound control or speakers in cntrl panel or w/e

then manage audio devices then you'll get to a tab like this:

disable laptop speakers and all other sound deviced and enable HDMI

this is all from memory on my gf's laptop tho

When I goto sound options there is only the laptop speakers in the list ( even with show disabled devices)

I went into properties of the speakers but won't let me change anything

In my device manager for sound devices there are two things listed, one of them is the hdmi audio while the other is for speaker audio. Both have updated drivers n according to the system neither have issues. But when I goto the sound options the hdmi isn't listed


My device manager shows that there is HDMI audio but for some reason my sound manager won't find it or use it

The video driver is actually what contains the audio driver for the HDMI... stupid, I know. Reinstall your video driver.

And yeah I will try to re-install video drivers, see how it goes, will post what happens

Okay wow so yeah I reinstalled the video drivers and boom it works.

This is so messed up because this laptop is brandnew and I had to already reinstall drivers.

Weird.
