For anyone that does field work as part of their job, do you get a per diem or food allowance, and if so how much per day?

If its food and accomodation can you break it down into each?

Thanks!

Accommodation paid for directly by company, $2.75/hour food per diem (our pilots make $3.50, but they're union of course). Doesn't change even if we are in the U.S., which is fucking awesome considering how cheap food/booze is down there.

0.38 / km for personal vehicle
Supposed to be $40 per day for food but if it's a company trip rather than a client trip it doesn't matter as long as it's reasonable
hotel
car rental if not using company vehicle
charge out cell calls if you don't have a company cell
etc...

$45 a day for food, or I can keep the receipts for each meal and expense them all. But just about everybody's too lazy to do that.

This for me too. If filing expense reports the most senior person present is supposed to pay. Since it was usually a few of us at a time (some younger and without credit cards) we were just cut cheques for 45/day and left to fend for ourselves.

You can make out pretty well when the hotel feeds you breakfast and the client provides lunch. You shoulda seen my bar tab at the end of my last 3 week trip. :nut:

Just looked at an internal posting that would require travel to OKC. Per diem of $66 per day for food/parking/laundry. Accomodation and rental car provided.

Liason for heavy maintenance checks on our aircraft, it doesn't happen very often for me, but last year was a month in Jacksonville, Florida, it was pretty nice location.

I'm in Houston for 3 weeks at a time. I get Hotel and Car Rental covered, and $30/day. It's pretty slim, but I got the Hotel to throw in free breakfast. Subway lunch is $5.00 which leaves usually $20.00 for dinner. I usually charge the other $5 on random stuff like Energy Drinks or food for my Hotel room.

You should be able to get more than $30, especially if you are travelling on contract work. I'm in training, so my company cannot just charge it out to a client.

When I still worked O&G I had no cap to my per diem. Breakfasts were usually around 20. Same or more for lunch and dinner could reach into the 60s.

I had no real limit. The company just wanted you to eat like you would at home. The only real condition is 1 alcoholic beverage only with dinner.

$16/meal, you're ahead with breakfast/lunch but that gets eaten up by dinner. Hotel paid for by the company, .25c/km to drive your own vehicle (if you cant hitch a ride in a company truck) .85c/km for those with a decked out truck to work instead of using a company truck.

Don't get me started....

In Canada I would get a flat 42/day (14 for every 8 hours) Since I transferred to the US, its up to $15 but only if you go somewhere overnight, and only with receipts.
