Still looking great almost a year after its introduction

Hopefully it doesn't end up vaporware... that would be a crazy shame because Toyota needs a sporty car BADLY!

Is that sort of the Supra replacement or reintroduction?

neither, think it's trying to compete with gen coupe

Supra supposedly has been green lit I think. I know the Toyota CEO wants to produce it, but it's supposed to be a hybrid car IIRC. The FT-86 is like the Celica I guess, smaller 2 door coupe built to compete with cars like the Civic SI.

I like my Gen coupe.

Just wish Toyota had something more substantial in the pipes that would compete in the 350z range

Don't get your hopes up. By the time this comes out it will be a 3300 lb hybrid.

With 110 horsepower. A bargain at $25,000!

I badly want this car to be a success. If Toyota shows Honda how to make a small, reliable, economical and fun-to-drive sports car (RWD as an added bonus) then I'm hoping we'll see the Japanese car makers start to design more for that market segment.

I saw one of the FT86s at Goodwood this year. Before I saw it in real life I didn't like it at all, but seeing it in real life, its really growing on me.

I love the looks but I'm not going to hold my breath as long as Toyota continues to be the most conservative, bean counter controlled auto manufacturer in the world.

I think it's sexy and would snatch one up, depending on performance numbers and final design. Would be my first Toyota ever.

Sadly, Toyota will likely target Honda's CR-Z bucket of fail and instead of a RWD Toyobaru, expect to see a smaller, heavier and slower Prius....for the "performance hippies" :banghead:

I just saw this

Subaru's FT-86 with 60hp more. :dunno:

This might be a nice summer car to cruise around in.

The FT-86 is not like the celica. The FT-86 is based on the popular AE-86 Trueno. Celicas were FWD. AE86 were RWD

FT-86 = future Toyota 86

It's not based on the 86, it's commemorative of it.

Reading that website, they say November 2011 it will be released. And the base price should come in $20,000-$24,000 apparently.

A fun, relatively inexpensive, RWD coupe from Toyota? What...
