Okay heres the story, at my moms house in her basement where she and my little sister sleeps, they've been getting bug bites that are very ichy but we have no idea what we are dealing with or what the hell the big/critter/pest or what it looks like, does anyone have any recommendations for pest control or anything of that sort in calgary? thanks.

*its not mosquitoes lol

Search bed bugs, there's a good thread on here about that stuff.

Are there lots of bites in a row? That is a pretty clear indication of bed bugs and if you have them...my friend you are fucked.

I ended up in an apartment for a few months that had bed bugs, shit isn't fun at all, almost lost my mind, didn't take to that long tell I went back out the door minus lots of my belongings and skipping out on paying rent.

It is hard to take control of them, you should try and figure where they came from, have they been living there for awhile?

yeah, lift up your mattress and check around the edges of your bed. My aunt had it once, had to throw out the mattress because it was so bad.

I'd hope anyone with this type of problem would throw out the fucking bed. thats fucking disguesting.

I just saw this shit on the news last night. There is a MAJOR problem with bed bugs currently in toronto, and new york. I guess their shutting down some theatre's and shit.

Make sure you take pictures and shit for the rest of us to see.

I was under the impression that it is pretty difficult to get a bed bug infestation in Alberta due to the cold climate, that is unless you bring them back in your luggage after staying in a hotel or house that is infested.

Check your mattress and box spring first.
Then push your bed into the middle of the room.
Put Vaseline on the legs of the bed.
Line the outside of your box springs with double sided tape.

That way at least you can see if you catch anything in the morning.

Yeah this new generation of bed bugs are something like 250-500x more resiliant to pesticide, but have no immunity to heat. I thought it was something like 37* that they cannot survive above, but obviously the hotter it is, the quicker they will die.

Something like this: http://www.canadiantire.ca/AST/browse/3/HouseHome/3/CleaningToolsVacuums/SteamCleaners/PRD~0436247P/Shark%252BSteam%252BBottle.jsp?locale=en (cheapest option at Can Tire) will work well. Go Not just around the bed area, but all over the baseboards. If it is an infestation, they are likely deep inside your mattress/box spring, and to completely remove them you will likely have to dispose of those items.

BE SURE IT'S BEDBUGS! Carefully remove all of your bedding. Checking the inside of the bedsheet that's closest to the mattress, checking the mattress itself. Take the comforter out of it's case, check inside pillow cases.

I know for a fact there is a bed bug problem at an apt complex across from Chinook. My brother in law who is on Aish has to move for a month while they fumigate the entire floor. He had to throw out almost all his furniture and has to bag and launder clothing even though they really wanted him to throw it all out. High temp washing and drying and apparently freezing your clothes for weeks.

The building manager is having all the carpet ripped out as well.

This is the second time this has happened in the same building in three years.
