Starting business help

I am looking at starting my own buisness. I already got funding for it but i really have no idea where to start. My idea is a undercoating/detailing shop. I have experience in both but i honestly have no idea where to start or where to go.If anyone has started there own buisness can you please help me out or point me in a direction. Absolutly any help would be greatly appriciated. Thank you in advance:)

then copyright it or register it!
then lease a space or something..where u wanna be doing the business and shit!!

Here's what I did to get "beyond" up and running.

1. Apply for a Home Occupation Permit (http://www.calgary.ca/cweb/gateway/gateway.asp?GID=395&CID=0&URL=http%3A%2F%2Fcontent%2Ecalgary%2Eca%2FCCA%2FCity%2BLiving%2FResidential%2BResource%2FBylaws%2BPermits%2Band%2BZoning%2FHome%2BOccupation%2BPermits%2Findex%2Ehtm). If you have a proper place of business, ignore this.
2. Apply for a Business License (http://www.calgary.ca/cweb/gateway/gateway.asp?GID=395&CID=0&URL=http%3A%2F%2Fcontent%2Ecalgary%2Eca%2FCCA%2FCity%2BBusiness%2FLicences%2Band%2BPermits%2FBusiness%2BLicences%2FBusiness%2BLicences%2Ehtm).
3. Apply for a GST/business number (http://www.ccra-adrc.gc.ca/tax/business/bn/menu-e.html). Go to the tax office at Harry Hayes building to take care of this.
4. With your Business License and GST/business number, open a company Bank Account with the bank of your choice. This will allow you to accept cheques under the company name.
5. Do your taxes :). Seriously, hire a real accountant to do the work, don't rely on tedious paperwork yourself. Revenue Canada loves to go after the small guys, because they can win easily... we can't fight them because we can't afford million dollar lawyers. Trust me on this one :rofl:.

I've got a book I'll sell ya for $35 called 'Building a Dream' A Canadian Guide to Starting your Own Business if you're interested. I needed it for a University class this year and I believe it cost me over $50 or $60!

thanks for the tips rage as they might comein handy for me sometime soon. Just a question, how much do accountants charge on average for a homebusines/small business. That looks like it would be the most expensive thing on the list for my type of thing but well worth it as i cant stand all that paper work.

Before you even look into registering your company and such, the first step is some in-depth research on whether or not your idea of say a "undercoating/detailing" shop is sustainable. If it is you then take the time to create a detailed business plan which will become your battle stategy & guide for your business. Once you have this strategy defined, you can then move to implementing it where you move to get all the stuff rage2 mentioned and beyond. Unfortunatly I don't have a lot of time to walk through all the aspects given the time of the year, but here are some good websites to get you started:

You should try to find a buddy to open it with you so you can be partners in business and share your knowledge.

Also remember that any type of education is never a bad thing, maybe find a course on starting a business.

Think about your finances as well. You'll probably have to take a Small Business Loan to start it up.

The business world is very fierce, only the strong survive. Once you start it up though if you want it bad enough you will be successful.

It might be a good idea to take a course on starting your own business. I know SAIT offers night time entrepreneurship classes that could turn out to be very beneficial.
