I'm selling my old 1996 Truck and had a few questions about vehicle inspections.

I bought the truck 2 years ago (alberta truck) and never needed an inspection to register it.

Now that I'm selling it, some ppl have been telling me that they will need to get a vehicle inspection done before they can register it?

Can anyone tell me how this works? I thought the only inspection needed was an out of province one???

Thanks!

Some insurance companies have rules on a used vehicle needs to be inspected prior to the insurance company covering it.

^ It depends on the insurer. Some want inspections on vehicles after they reach a certain age, others do not.

Most (not all) insurance companies will ask for a safety inspection the first time someone insures a vehicle that is 12 years old or older (1998 & back). Once it's on the policy you normally won't have to ever get another inspection.

I'm thinking people are getting registration and insurance confused. Registries only needs an inspection if it is written off or from out of province. Depending on the new owners insurance company, they may require an inspection.

Yup, but lots of companies give you a 30 day grace period to get the inspection for them

Ya, for mine if they are too old I have 30 days to
get an inspection, so just flip the car in 30
days and go onto the next
