View Full Version : WTF State farm!!?

Shlade

Currently with ING paying $361 a month for my insurance for my mustang, being 19 doesnt help and 2 tickets is also plentiful enough to fuck me in the ass (2 speeding tickets)

So I figure Ill give State farm a call to see if I can lower my costs down and not pay so much. After all info and what not the guy calls me back saying its going to be $800+ a month for insurance... What the fucking fuck!!? thats unheard of.. I asked if he made a mistake and it says 800 a year or something (just praying it was that) nope comes out to about $9000 a year..

Seriously now.. 2 speeding tickets going about 10-15 over.. big whoop.. I know guys who have street racing and stunting on their record and its not even close to that!

Im just paying a stupid amount for my car insurance right now and want to lower it by trying to switch to another company.. Whats the best thing for me to do here?

what kinda car do you drive? Bullit Mustang?

possible that they are basing the price on the type of car and how much HP it has?

$361 a month for your age, type of car and driving record is actually not expensive at all

Im paying $2092 a year for a 1992 Nissan 180SX with $2000000 Liability, Comprehensive with $500 deductible and a 2008 Yamaha Raptor 250 with $1000000 Liability, Comprehensive with $500 deductible.

I consider myself lucky.

td wanted 6grand a year from me.

Actually the Bullitt isnt even in their systems anymore. They just base it off a regular mustang GT.

Awd-Tsi, Ive got a brand new car your running those cars on basic insurance. My car needs full coverage if anything were to happen.

Cant beleive its that high tho.. holy fuck

Best thing for you to do... stop speeding?

Seriously OP - at your stage in the game, you will notice insurance rates vary wildly. That's just the way she works. Even if you had a clean driving record, I'd venture to guess they would have wanted to charge you more than you wanted to pay.

Speeding tickets are 2 years old which sucks.

I pmd Masked Bandit. Ill see what hell end up saying.

Hate to say this, you're going to have expensive insurance for at least til your hit 25.

Tickets doesn't help. That's why people fight them to lower them. Fine is cheap. Insurance is expensive.

Shlade

I know ill have expensive insurance till im 25. I was completly aware of that but Im looking to save a little money anyways to have some more change in my pocket.

Ill be lucky if Im able to do that at all.

Do you have full coverage (Coll & Comp?)

Masked Bandit is the best to make sure youre paying a good amount.

As for the Car Rating - I totally understand, my 07 Civic SI is righter than an Acura TL Type S same year.

Makes me

You can't compare an old, 4 cylinder talon to a newer, rare, V8 Mustang haha

That's like me saying "well my EG civic only costs me $92/month and I have at least 20 tickets!! You're getting screwed!"

Unfortunately for Shlade, at your age, and that type of high powered, V8, two door, high chance of crashing, car, that's just what you're going to be stuck with. When I was 24 I insured my 1991 Mustang 5.0L. They (TD Meloche, who I've been with for 6 years) wanted $287/month. For a damn near twenty year old, only worth $4000, car.

Best bet would be to call an insurance broker and see if they can find you a better rate somewhere.

Honestly if you want to save money your best bet is to sell the car and drive something older and cheaper to insure.

It's a state farm thing. I tried insuring a Z32 (lhd) and they gave me a ridiculous quote. I goto insure a civic and they give me a great quote. They don't like insuring fast cars for some reason. Same thing happened to my friend.

I always laugh at these type of threads, only because we've all been there. When I was 18, and just moved to AB (from B.C.), I got quoted $450/month for my $500 1978 Dodge Aspen, (with slant 6 225, not the V8). I took the bus for 2 years  My insurance was $100/month in BC

Yeah insurance is a funny thing. Had an at fault accident a long time ago and All State wanted to raise my insurance from 2500/yr to over 6k. I had a single speeding ticket before that with no claims. I moved to meloche and my premium was lower than what All State was charging me even before the accident.

Was very happy they were greedy. The huge increase got me off my ass to look for another insurer. If they raisee it by $500 I might of just accepted it.

So definitely shop around to see what different companies will offer.

Didn't realize it was for collision, ya well mine wanted 480 a month for my talon for collision ... I asked why and they say turbo awd 2 door sports car

I had 11 demerits on my license last summer and was paying $27 a month for my bike and $113 a month for my BMW.

I love being over 25.

Pretty sure you were driving beside me / stepping on it near Heritage / Chinook the other day.
Next time you get a ticket go fight it to get the demerits taken off, especially if they're < 15km/h.

See how much TD will charge you by doing the online quote, I found them to be cheapest of all the places I've checked including Masked Bandit's company. I'm also under 25 and with a new car.

I just applied for new insurance today and noticed a huge drop now since im turning 26 in a few days.

The age factor is a huge multiplier :P

My advice is to get insurance under a parent or something and put yourself as a secondary driver :)

Talked to Masked Bandit.. I completly refer him to anybody on here. He is definetly a great guy and really really helpful. He tells me im pretty much getting a big discount with this ING (intact) since my parents have been with them for 11+ years. Having a Mustang doesnt help but paying $361 a month for insurance does not seem so bad after all.

As for putting myself under my parents insurance.. Thats a big no no. I dont want any of my mistakes to affect their insurance! I take pride in paying for my own things!

Guess ill have to wait to turn 25 and lower the bitch down! :banghead:

Squishy... I dont remember being there at all a few days ago...

If I was tho did the car sound good atleast? ;)

Blue Circle-1296/Year

2006 Yamaha R1
State Farm 750/Year (Basic)
Blue Circle 700/Year ( Full)

I asked the guy why my car so expensive and he told me because my car is expensive to fix ...
Lucky I found Blue Circle

If you go with them make sure you never get in an accident then! They are bottom feeding scum suckers when you try to get the value of your vehicle back. Terribly rude to talk to in the claims department and hate everyone it seems haha

Just my experience! Changed all my business insurance I had with them elsewhere after what they put me through.

I'm looking at going through Competition Insurance right now. By far the lowest we've found for modified or performance vehicles and young drivers with imperfect records

I've noticed this about State Farm myself. I have a great rate through TD and just for kicks, ran an online quote for myself.

State Farm was ready to break out the lube and rape my wallet for nearly three times what I pay yearly with TD.

Just a reminder for everyone, fighting a ticket to get the demerits taken off and getting a deal will STILL affect your insurance premium. The only way convictions are not recorded is if they dismiss your conviction! Tickets are usually held against your insurance for 3 years!
