Whats the reason for having the supposed option to delete a post/thread if a member doesn't have the authority to do so?

Sometimes if there are double posts or the like, why cant I or anybody else delete them? It gets quite annoying to have to flag a post so a mod can delete it, if he chooses to that is. :dunno:

Also, whats the reason why we cant edit posts in Ask Leo? It seems much more annoying then anything.

And in all other areas, it helps us keep track of what is posted to keep track of scammers/trolls.
