I'll keep it pretty simple, got ten grand that I can spend on a car, just wondering what you guys would think would be the best bang for my buck in my price range? I wanna get a sedan, and reliability is key. Thinking a japanese car, but haven't thought much beyond that. Thoughts and suggestions?
Thanks a lot in advance!

Older Honda Accord.

Yeah, I agree. Go with a Civic or an Accord. For ten grand, you can easily pick up a 2005 Civic.

You have to be more specific man. Any certain manufacturers? What are you going to be doing with it, ie. hauling family around, just driving to work, outrunning rcmp, etc. Like above posters said, can't ever go wrong with a civic or accord. You have pm.

Good condition G35 for 10k? LOLOLOL. That's hilarious.

I agree with the Civic or Accord. It will be the best bang for your buck (lol I didn't even notice you said it till I wrote it down), and you also mentioned reliability, so honestly going with G35 makes no sense whatsoever. Honda will be cheap maintenance and decent reliability, and long lasting.

I'd be inclined to look for a maxima. Solid cars with a bulletproof engine.

Accord is a good bet - tough to find a better car.

But watch out for the earlier 2000's transmissions! (Not sure what year they stopped breaking down)

How about a MK4 Golf and spend the rest on aftermarket parts if you are into that!

Nissan Maxima, hands down.

I drove a 2002 Maxima SE until it was written off in an accident. Phenomenal car in every way. Tons of power, plenty of room, ultra reliable, comfortable, safe, nice looking...etc. The heated steering wheel is an unexpectedly nice perk too. I would not hesitate to purchase another one should the situation require me to do so. The only reason I did not replace the maxima with another one is that we bought it to be our family car, but we now have an SUV for that. You could probably get a 2002-2004 around $10K.

Get a late model domestic sedan or Hyundai/Kia. People in Calgary expect far too much for used imports especially Hondas. You will be better of with a late model GM with 25K KM's compared to a five year old or more Japanese vehicle nearing 100,000 KM's.

I had about 10g a year ago and went with a sentra spec v, I love it, 50k km's 2004, 180 tq, 175hp, limited slip diff, with winter tires it's a beast in the snow too.

@ the used lot at Fish Creek Nissan, I test drove an 05' Altima 5 speed SL w/ the 3.5 VQ35DE w/ only like 47k...

It had power everything, but no bose nor leather... doesn't look baller, but it goes like stink

It was going for $11,999, but they were willing to deal down to just around 10k + tax

is it wrong that i would still rather go with an accord with 100,000 miles than a brand new fucking pontiac?

now if we were talkin truck, that would be another story... Domestic all the way.

97-01 prelude

Money left over to get a nice set of wheels/tires and a decent suspension setup.
No sedan for you!

hard to admit this when considering all the other posts that have come out of you, but this is the best suggestion yet...

I know he wants a sedan, but if I was the OP i'd consider this as well.

Preludes were overpriced new and in the used market place. There's nothing wrong with the car but they aren't good value for the money and a very average performance car.

There's a reason they're overpriced - they're one of the last good cars that Honda made.

It's a great compromise between comfort and performance. Unlike every other 2-door import I've owned, I haven't gotten sick of it yet.

look at something with awd so you can drive it all year round
consider maybe audi a4?? they are in your price range and they have good aftermarket parts available if you wanna get into that

I love my German cars, but I would never consider buying one that was less than 10,000.00 especially an Audi. (golf MAYBE).

Maxima is definately best bang for your buck and the maintenance on these cars is virtually nothing.

I'm glad you like it but it doesn't change the fact that it's too slow and too expensive. The car does nothing the Integra GSR can't do better for less money. The GSR & ITR are the best FWD cars Honda's ever sold in North America followed by the CRX and EG & EC Civic Si's. IMO the Prelude was part of Honda's undoing charging too much for not enough ending up with lackluster sales which caused them to axe what was one of their best cars in the 80's.

I love my TSX. and for the price and the quality of the car. I couldn't be happier. I'm sure you can find someting around that range. You wont' find a decent A4 for that price. You need to consider repair costs as well.

You should get a 98-05 Lexus GS300/400/430, hands down a better car than anything else mentioned in this thread.

Extremely reliable, great looking, good power, excellent build quality.

You honestly won't get anything better for 10g.

ALSO, if later on you're looking at modifying the car, there is a ton of aftermarket support with parts. Some really good quality stuff as well at a decent price.

If you only care about performance then I agree - the Integra Type R would be the best bet. But you sacrifice options and ride quality and live in constant fear of your car getting stolen. Actually if performance is the number one criteria then Honda probably wouldn't even make the cut - A used Cobalt SS or SRT4 would be the better buy.

I have the Car and Driver which pitted the Prelude against the GSR and the Prelude came out on top in all of the performance categories. The difference in torque in the H-series makes for much better daily driving too.

Aside from performance though, the Integra lacks the refinement of the Prelude in terms of ride quality, cabin noise, engine noise and has fewer options (no heated mirrors, no heated seats, no upgraded sound system). The interior of the DC2 annoyed me to no end - the armrest and cupholders are useless. Resale value of the GSR and Prelude really aren't that different either.

I think Honda's undoing was due in a large part to making ever increasing vehicle sizes, and doing R&D and assembly in North America.

you put it perfectly here.
Both of my two BB6 Prelude's were great cars, and I miss them (especially my 01 SE). Unfortunately, Honda hasn't made a car that's been similar to the Prelude in years, and probably won't ever. The Prelude is actually a truly fun car, oil burning and all. Is it fast? no, and even s/c'd, its slow. But it's a fun, reliable, fuel efficient, comfortable car that looks great and drives better.
