Although they don't have that many cars down in Cuba, the ones they do have can be pretty interesting. A lot of the old American cars have been painted with what looks like house paint and they are running on Russian engines in some cases.

SoI thought I would share for anyone who cares. Here are some pics from my trip to Varadero:

Actually the only broken down car we saw there:

"Coco" taxi. These were almost exclusively driven by women for some reason. And they drive crazy!

One of the very few newer luxury cars I saw down there. This one was a taxi too. I wonder how he got an Audi?

That was a little trip back. We were down there at the end of March and I had always heard about the amazing 19050's & 1960's american cars down there. I found that for the most part they were pretty well worn (which isn't a surprise).

Now I want to go back

The lack of traffic is refreshing, it is like every car in Cuba represents a gap in traffic in Calgary.

Ya traffic was especially light in Varedero. We made a trip to Havana too and the traffic wasn't bad at all either. Our tour guide told us that most people can only afford to take the car out on weekends for a special trip because gas is so expensive.

We went all-inclusive so we mostly ate at the hotel. The couple places we ate out at weren't very good anyway. And there's not a ton of things to see in Varadero because it is a small town. We mostly explored the beach and hotels up and down the penisula. The beach is the best part! I love it there.

The capital building in Havana was pretty amazing. You have to pay $2 to take pictures inside it, but totally worth it IMO. And Revolution Square is cool to see once, but there's not much to it. There is lots to see in Havana, so you can't go wrong. Pretty interesting City.

It is not Lada Riva 2105 it is slightly modified Lada 21011. Grew up among these cars, know every bit of them.:)
