Jeep came into the shop today and we took a look at the front pads, down to the metal needing to be changed.. but the real eye opener was taking off the rear wheels and taking a look at the brakes... here's what we found:

Edit. updated with pics of the passenger side. LOL you can see what was left of the disk on that side.

Also, Yes.. it was a Jeep GC. I'm impressed you can tell that from the generic looking caliper/rotor and spring in the first picture. good job!

The Jeep doesn't look lifted, so I assume it wasn't used for bogging. Did it come from Ontario or nearby? How old was this beast?

What rotors? I don't see any rotors. Are you sure you're qualified to be working on vehicles?

Not sure WTF happened there. Looks to be a Grand Cherokee rear, I wonder if the drums from a drum-brake '93 got put on a disc-brake optioned model? Bizarre.

Every once in a while you'll find things like that... I saw a chev 2500 truck that wore his brakes down to the vanes on one side. Scary thing is, that truck ran around with a dump trailer full of masonry junk most of the time

Didn't jeep use a mixed system for a few years? Drum for the parking brake only, disc brakes for standard braking?

Do you not see the calipers? Those are what rotors look like when the owners run them till there is no meat left.

New rotors for a GC look like so:

Yes indeed, right up until 1998 in this particular vehicle. There was a smallish "drum" in the center of the rotor for the drum-style E-brake. What really gets me about that pic is that I see no evidence of the rotor portion whatsoever. I mean it's possible it's been worn completely away, but you'd think you'd see some remains of the vanes. '93 Grands could have either disc or drum brakes out back, so I'm still wondering if some idiot saw the e-brake drums and figured the thing had drum brakes and thus put on a '93 drum instead of a rotor. I'd like to see more pics either way, haha.

I'm pretty sure tik-tok was just being a smartass.

Also generally the rear rotors don't have vanes, just a solid single cast piece.

I think he was being sarcastic. Looking at the pic through my berry, it seems like there's nothing left at all...
If that's the case, there's nothing to machine LOL.

Ah, that could very well be, I seem to remember my GC having vaned rears but I could be wrong about that.

Thats pretty bad. Once had someone complain to me his brakes felt funny and noisy...someone had put the pads in backwards hahaha.
